Pant-Legs And Pathology: The Marriage Of Individual And Family Assessment, Steven M. Harris, Dean M. Busby
Pant-Legs And Pathology: The Marriage Of Individual And Family Assessment, Steven M. Harris, Dean M. Busby
Faculty Publications
Bowen family systems theory suggests that individuals who report high levels of individual pathology will also report having been raised in families characterized by high conflict and low adaptability. Combining individual and family assessment measures, or using one type of measure to understand the results of the other may be possible through the application of systems theory. Therapeutic implications of the study reported here indicate that practitioners should consider the value of focusing on family of origin processes before a primary focus on isolated traumatic events guides the direction of therapy.

A Bias Of Intelligence Testing, Ibpp Editor
International Bulletin of Political Psychology
This article describes a bias of intelligence testing that is explicated less often, yet is more profound than the biases commonly presented in psychology textbooks.
Psychosocial Risks Of Storing And Using Human Tissues In Research, Jon F. Merz
Psychosocial Risks Of Storing And Using Human Tissues In Research, Jon F. Merz
RISK: Health, Safety & Environment (1990-2002)
Dr. Merz argues that genetics technology makes it more compelling that researchers plan more carefully for the collection and disposition of information derived from subjects' tissues and blood.
An Administrative View Of Model Uncertainty In Public Health, Clark D. Carrington
An Administrative View Of Model Uncertainty In Public Health, Clark D. Carrington
RISK: Health, Safety & Environment (1990-2002)
Dr. Carrington reviews several ways to deal with model uncertainty, including those failing to acknowledge any use of models. He then evaluates six such methods with regard to, e.g., transparency and cost of execution.

Fish Primary Cultures For Toxicity And Pathological Studies, Maria Lyons Alcantara
Fish Primary Cultures For Toxicity And Pathological Studies, Maria Lyons Alcantara
Doctoral
In this study, epithelial primary cultures from the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were developed as a model for environmental effects assessment. Cadmium was used as representative of heavy metals. The possible use of this system for pathological studies was also evaluated. The differential cytotoxic effects of cadmium on fish and mammalian epithelial cells in established and primary culture wee assessed by looking at the reduction of colony-forming ability and the reduction in the extent of growth. The influence of medium composition on the toxicity of cadmium was also studied using serum-free and serum-containing media. The experiments using immortalised cell lines …
Evaluation Of Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling In A Natural River And Implications In Instream Flow Assessment Methods, Karl L. Tarbet
Evaluation Of Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling In A Natural River And Implications In Instream Flow Assessment Methods, Karl L. Tarbet
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Logan River was used as a study site to assess the capabilities of two-dimensional depth-averaged hydraulic modeling in the x-y plane of a natural river for use with instream flow studies. Data were collected to spatially represent the study reach with depth, velocity, northing, easting, elevation, and substrate values using a total station and electronic velocity meter. Computational finite element meshes were generated using four different density levels of geometry data to examine the relationship between field data density and computational mesh on geometry errors. Geometry errors were found to be related to smoothing effects, which removed complex channel …

Reliability Of The Saunders Electronic Inclinometer For The Assessment Of Lumbar Rom, Melanie C. Maneval
Reliability Of The Saunders Electronic Inclinometer For The Assessment Of Lumbar Rom, Melanie C. Maneval
Rehabilitation Sciences Theses & Dissertations
The American Medical Association (AMA) advocates using the inclinometer for the measurement of spinal motion. Clinicians however, have not yet adopted this method in practice. Much controversy exists within the health care community with regard to which measurement method is the most reliable. The purpose of this study was: (1) to clarify the work that has been performed to date and (2) to examine the intrarater and interrater reliability of the Saunders Electronic Inclinometer for the assessment of lumbar flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation. The authors concluded that the SEI demonstrated moderate to good reliability for the assessment of …

The Normative Nature Of Risk Assessment: Features And Possibilities, Carl F. Cranor
The Normative Nature Of Risk Assessment: Features And Possibilities, Carl F. Cranor
RISK: Health, Safety & Environment (1990-2002)
Dr. Cranor argues that appreciating risk assessment to be permeated with normative presuppositions, in contrast with being primarily objective, opens up unforeseen possibilities for risk management.

Demand For Science Training In Olympic Esd Schools, Carl Simpson, Jessica Hargis Simpson, Linda D. (Linda Darlene) Clark
Office of Institutional Effectiveness
INTRODUCTION Between the end of August and November, 1996, the Western Washington University Office of Survey Research conducted a survey of school principals and superintendents' offices in the Olympic ESD. The survey was initiated by Western Washington University Extended Programs with the goal of exploring the kinds of inservice training needed by science teachers in the Olympic ESD. This report presents the findings of our survey.
