Changing Employment Patterns In Nonmetropolitan America: Implications For Family Structure, Don E. Albrecht, Stan L. Albrecht
Changing Employment Patterns In Nonmetropolitan America: Implications For Family Structure, Don E. Albrecht, Stan L. Albrecht
Journal of Rural Social Sciences
During the past few decades, the industria/employment structure of rural America has changed dramatically. The major causes of these changes have been technological developments which have reduced the human labor needs in the natural resources industries of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and mining. While employment in the natural resources industries has declined, the loss of these jobs has been offset by increased employment in the manufacturing and service industries. This paper explores the relationship between variations in the industrial structure of nonmetropolitan counties in the United States and several family structure variables. It was found that counties with larger proportions of …

The victim was told to get a marking stick by his supervisor. While he was doing so, he stood on the "booster" of a PMN-2 that had been "destroyed" on 20th December 1996. The "booster" had lain hidden in a clump of grass 2m (or 4m on an attached sketch-map) from where the mine was "destroyed". The "booster" left a crater of 10cm diameter x 5cm deep.

Organizational Context And Young Adult Education In An Urban Service Corps, Robert A. Pence
Organizational Context And Young Adult Education In An Urban Service Corps, Robert A. Pence
Thesis, Dissertations, Student Creative Activity, and Scholarship
As a medium-sized, state-supported youth corps, the Wisconsin Conservation Corps (WCC) is an established institutional expression of a service corps model that has potential to address some of the educational and economic needs of marginalized young adults from "at-risk" environments. The WCC is a "second chance" work experience program that attempts to prepare 18 to 25 year-old unemployed young adults for employment or continuing education while they complete useful conservation work throughout the state. It is largely a white, male, rural-based program that maintains some crews in the black and Hispanic urban core of Milwaukee. This case study critically examines …

Making Savages Of Us All: White Women, Pueblo Indians, And The Controversy Over Indian Dances In The 1920s, Margaret D. Jacobs
Making Savages Of Us All: White Women, Pueblo Indians, And The Controversy Over Indian Dances In The 1920s, Margaret D. Jacobs
Department of History: Faculty Publications
Historians who have covered the dance controversy usually treat it just in passing as one of the events in John Collier's reform career before he became Franklin Roosevelt's Commissioner of Indian Affairs. They have generally characterized the public debate over Indian dances as a struggle over whether religious freedom should be extended to Native Americans. To many Native Americans, the threat to ban Indian dances certainly did impinge on their religious practices. Yet, the controversy itself involved more than a constitutional debate on religious freedom. Many of the non-Indian participants in the controversy were white women who, in an era …

An Examination Of Women's Access To Professional Positions In Hospital Foundations, Bettina Kohlbrenner
An Examination Of Women's Access To Professional Positions In Hospital Foundations, Bettina Kohlbrenner
Master's Theses
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the extent to which professional women in hospital foundations perceive career barriers in their organizations-particularly whether women in mid-level management perceive greater barriers to their career advancement than do women in senior-level management. The researcher also strove to identify the barriers identified in the literature review that women felt were the most significant in their organizations.
A self-administered questionnaire was mailed to 204 women in 113 hospital foundations in California. The subjects were selected from the membership directory of the Association of Philanthropy. The questionnaire was designed to collect three types of …
