Measuring Organizational Climate For Diversity, Amy L. Vick
Measuring Organizational Climate For Diversity, Amy L. Vick
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
The Climate for Diversity Index measures three dimensions associated with the ability of organizations or units to create an environment that allows members of all sociocultural backgrounds to participate and fully develop. The climate for diversity impacts individual outcomes such as general job satisfaction, affective commitment, identification with a psychological group/department, organizational citizenship behavior, and the intent to turnover. Several structural models depicting the relationship between the climate for diversity and the individual outcome variables were examined. Significant differences in perceptions of the climate for diversity are predicted by ethnicity, disability, and position. Data were provided by 319 members of …

An Evidentiary Framework For Diversity As A Compelling Interest In Higher Education, Kimberly J. Robinson
An Evidentiary Framework For Diversity As A Compelling Interest In Higher Education, Kimberly J. Robinson
Law Faculty Publications
This Note argues that if courts choose to reexamine evidence on the value of diversity in higher education, they should not apply the evidentiary requirements that the Supreme Court has applied to cases involving questions of past discrimination. Rather, courts should consider the unique nature of diversity in higher education and the protection afforded the academic context in which the evidence is considered and modify their review of the evidence presented accordingly. Furthermore, this Note argues that the interest of an institution of higher education16 in diversity is "compelling" in light of the evidence that a racially diverse student body …

Squaring Affirmative Action Admissions Policies With Federal Judicial Guidelines: A Model For The Twenty-First Century, Leslie Y. Garfield
Elisabeth Haub School of Law Faculty Publications
This article will highlight the legal limitations law schools confront when adopting diversity admission policies in light of the new judicial climate that disfavors considering non-traditional race criteria in the admission decision process. Part I highlights the difficulty law schools face when trying to admit a fully diverse class under the traditional application process. Part II discusses the judicial response to voluntary diversity admission policies and other race-based preference policies and defines the appropriate standard for court review. Part III proposes a model diversity admission policy. Part IV analyzes this model policy under the Court's strict scrutiny test.

To Meet The Changing Demographics Of The American Work Force, New Management Strategies That Are Sensitive To The Needs Of A Distinctive Multi-Cultural Population Will Be Needed, Jaranne A. Dargan-Brown
Theses
After more than 30 years of affirmative action programs and a more recent emergence of politically correct thinking, the work force of many of America's corporations and agencies have voluntarily (and some involuntarily) become more culturally diverse . Recently statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor indicate that more than half the American work force is made of people of color and women.
Changes in the racial makeup of companies are forcing managers to realize that when people of different races and genders are added to the corporate mix, their experiences, backgrounds and differences must be considered and integrated into …
The Building Of A Diversified Work Force, Kirstie K. Hickman
The Building Of A Diversified Work Force, Kirstie K. Hickman
Theses
This thesis will discuss the trend toward a diversified labor force, as we move toward Workforce 2000. Many statistics show that the upcoming workforce will have fewer white males. Significant increases in the numbers of minorities , women, and immigrants will have a serious effect on how Human Resource Departments operate within companies. These demographical changes in the face of the labor market will require new methods of managing and training in all sectors of the corporate structure.
Moving forward t o manage and train individuals for the challenges of the year 2000 and beyond will require corporations to address …
