Estimating The Payback For An Electrical Vfd (Variable Frequency Drive) Application In A Pumping Plant Which Presently Spills Excess Pumpage, Charles M. Burt

BioResource and Agricultural Engineering

This report includes equations and tips for pump selection criteria and estimating the annual KW-hr savings for a VFD installation, including the maximum potential savings and the approximate amount of KW-hr that would have been consumed if one pump had been converted to VFD.

Stability Of Cereal Crop Yields' Performance: An Econometric Analysis For India And Andhra Pradesh., A. Ganesh Kumar Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Agriculture is an importannt sector of the economy in many developing countries. Of late, in many countries, this sector Is believed to be suffering from unstable performance, especially where the modern (Green Revolutlon) technology has been widely adopted. The issue of stability of agricul tura! performance is one of international concern. This thesis is about the performance of cereal crop yiel ds in India.Importance of Agriculture in the Indian Economy.Agriculture is an important sector Aooounting for more than 30% of the countrys national 1988-89, the performance of agriculture, both as nateriais for industrla! producelon ponsumption demand, determines of the Indian …

A Modelling Study Of Discontinuous Biological Irrigation, Bernard P. Boudreau, Roberta L. Marinelli Jan 1994

A Modelling Study Of Discontinuous Biological Irrigation, Bernard P. Boudreau, Roberta L. Marinelli

Journal of Marine Research

Irrigation of infaunal dwellings can lead to significant alteration of solute distributions in sediments. As a result, sediment-seawater fluxes of nutrients and dissolved carbon are greatly enhanced, and the biology of benthic communities is affected. The most realistic mathematical representation of irrigation and its effect on sediment geochemistry is Aller's (1980) cylinder model. One critical assumption of this model is that burrows are irrigated continually, and that burrow water solute concentrations are identical to overlying water concentrations at all times. However, the vast majority of infaunal tube- and burrow-dwelling organisms irrigate periodically, i.e. in an on/off cycle. During periodic irrigation, …

Ec95-744 Design And Management Of Storage Containment Of Fertilizer And Pesticides, Robert D. Grisso, Delynn Hay, Gerald R. Bodman Jan 1994

Ec95-744 Design And Management Of Storage Containment Of Fertilizer And Pesticides, Robert D. Grisso, Delynn Hay, Gerald R. Bodman

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Storage, handling and disposal of pesticides and fertilizers have been identified by state and federal agencies as practices that create high risks to surface and groundwater quality. This circular is to assist those who need secondary containment for fertilizers and pesticides. This will help develop a construction plan that should meet the State of Nebraska Containment Regulations and assess facility needs, construction materials, size requirements and management needs.

Ec94-737 Calibrating Anhydrous Ammonia Applicators, William L. Kranz, Charles A. Shapiro, Robert Grisso

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Application of agricultural chemicals has come under increased scrutiny from environmental groups and federal regulatory agencies. Nitrogen fertilizer is used in greater quantities than any other agricultural chemical. It also is the contaminant most often found in Nebraska groundwater. Accurate application of nitrogen is important from an environmental and economic viewpoint. Approximately 800 million pounds of nitrogen are applied to 12 million acres of Nebraska cropland each year. Nitrogen applied as anhydrous ammonia (NH3) accounts for around 40 percent of the total nitrogen applied.

Crop Irrigation Requirement Program, P M. Aylmore, G J. Luke, E J. Hauck Jan 1994

Crop Irrigation Requirement Program, P M. Aylmore, G J. Luke, E J. Hauck

Resource management technical reports

This program was written as an aid for predicting the irrigation requirements of annual and perennial crops grown in different regions of Western Australia. The program can also be used as a guide for estimating irrigation requirements under different management strategies or for groundwater allocation.

Optimizing Irrigation Management For Pollution Control And Sustainable Crop Yield, Ghassan R. Musharrafieh, Richard C. Peralta, Ronald J. Hanks, Lynn M. Dudley

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

Irrigation strategies which maximize crop yield while maintaining target salt concentration in the root zone and/or prevent salt from leaching to the groundwater are computed using a nonlinear, one dimensional, simulation/optimization management model. The included constraint equations maintain a water volume balance and salt transport in the unsaturated zone. Utilized are implicit finite difference forms of the nonlinear, unsteady, unsaturated water flow equation (Richards's equation), and the diffusion-convection solute transport equation. Other constraints include nonlinear functions describing the hydraulic properties of the medium (hydraulic conductivity as a function of matric potential, volumetric water content as a function of matric potential, …

G94-1221 Checking The Performance Of Your Landscape Irrigation System, Don Steinegger, Roch E. Gaussoin, Delynn Hay

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide outlines methods to assess and improve landscape irrigation performance. A properly designed and functioning irrigation system can save water, improve plant appearance, and reduce non-point source pollution. An irrigation system also must apply water uniformly, at a rate that the soil can absorb, and the proper amount to meet the water needs of the landscape plants. Runoff can result when an improperly functioning system applies water faster than the soil can absorb it. This runoff can carry applied fertilizer, such as nitrogen, as well as some pesticides into the streets and eventually into storm drains. Another concern is …
