Norris Alfred: A Voice From The Prairie, Kevin L. Warneke
Norris Alfred: A Voice From The Prairie, Kevin L. Warneke
Student Work
The purpose of this study was to determine how a county editor from Polk, Nebraska, could attract a loyal following of readers scattered throughout the United States and be nominated for one of the highest awards given to journalist. Norris Alfred, editor of the Polk Progress from 1955 to 1964 and from 1966 to 1989, bucked a trend among country editors when he made locally written editorials an integral part of his newspaper. Country editors, unlike their counterparts with daily newspapers, have not always chosen to include their own editorials in their newspapers. They cite, among other reasons, a lack …
An Introduction To Virtual Reality, Leda Kanellakos
An Introduction To Virtual Reality, Leda Kanellakos
SWITCH
A general introduction to the concept of virtual reality, the technology associated with it, and the theoretical applications of virtual reality. Virtual reality is compared to the introduction of the television and how both revolutionize communication. Examples of applications for virtual reality include high school reunions and computerized fantasies. The author also discusses the future applications of virtual reality as it becomes more widely spread. The concept of virtual reality is discussed within the context of quotes from Vary T. Coates in their 1992 book The Future of Information Technology, and Myron W. Krueger in their article Artificial Reality …

Doctoral Theses
A recent trend in computing is to distribute the computations among a set of processing elements. There are two basic appronches to this - one is to build a loosely-coupled system and the other is to form a tightly-coupled system [PS85].In a loosely-coupled system, the processors do not share common memory or a common clock; but sharing of important resources like data files, softwares, special hardware components etc., is possible without duplicating the resources themselves. The processing nodes may even be geographicully separated from each other and are connected through databuses, telephone/radio links, satellite, etc. Such loosely- coupled systems are …

On Lexical And Syntactic Processing Of Bangla Language By Computer., Probal Sengupta Dr.
Doctoral Theses
A distinctive intelligent trait of human beings is the ability to carry out meaningful communication through language. The communication may be direct as in spoken conversation or indirect as in written form, through the audio-visual media, etc. Linguistic ability in humans have fascinated scholars ever since man first learnt to use language. Linguistics, the branch of study involved in studying the nature of human linguistic communication, is perhaps as old as language itself. The invention of the computer added a new dimension to linguistics. Making the computer emu- late human linguistic behaviour was taken up as a challenge by computer …
Rape Myth Usage In The New York Times: A Content Analysis Of 1990 And 1992 Rape Stories, Christina Navis
Rape Myth Usage In The New York Times: A Content Analysis Of 1990 And 1992 Rape Stories, Christina Navis
Student Work
Due to a large deficit in the number of studies focusing on the advancement of rape myths in print journalism, this study analyzed rape stories in the New York Times for the presence of absence of rape myths. Coverage in 1990 and 1992 was selected for analysis because of its chronology before and after 1991 William Kennedy Smith Rape Trial. This trial played a strategic role since it was determined that rape myths are evident in the New York Times coverage of the Kennedy Smith trial. Chi-square analyses tested for association between the year of the coverage and the number …
Style And Otherness In L.-F. Céline's Rigodon, Ann L. Murphy
Style And Otherness In L.-F. Céline's Rigodon, Ann L. Murphy
Studies in 20th & 21st Century Literature
L.-F. Céline's preoccupation with the question of style appears not only in his correspondence, interviews and "socio-political" (i.e. anti-Semitic) tracts, but also in his novels. An examination of Céline's thoughts on the writing of, and in, novels reveals an opposition between features which should inform style, and those which should be eliminated, in other words, between those values upon which his own style rests, and those associated with non-style, with his "others of style." Two passages in his final novel Rigodon may be read as figuring certain aspects of these thoughts as well as some of the paradoxes which accompany …

Improving The Communication Of The Gospel Through Preaching: A Systematic Congregational Process, James Lamb
Improving The Communication Of The Gospel Through Preaching: A Systematic Congregational Process, James Lamb
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
The message of Christian preaching, then, is unique because of the content of the message and who has revealed it. But the distinctiveness does not stop there. This particular form of rhetoric carries its own power to bring about change.
Study Of Circulating Antibodies To Heat-Shock Proteins 60 And 70 In Autistic Subjects, Fang-Yi Chiu
Study Of Circulating Antibodies To Heat-Shock Proteins 60 And 70 In Autistic Subjects, Fang-Yi Chiu
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Autism is a behavioral syndrome characterized by a severe impairment of reciprocal social relations, and of verbal and nonverbal communications. Many different etiologic factors such as viral infection and genetic predisposition have been proposed to explain the development of this disorder. Immune abnormalities, such as a decreased lymphoblastic response to T-cell mitogen, defective antibody responses to rubella vaccine, and decreased numbers of T lymphocytes, also have been identified in a subpopulation of patients with autism, which implies that the development of autism in some cases may be due to autoimmune mechanisms.
Recent evidence suggests that immune response to the heat-shock …
