Technical Improvements In Corrosion Casting Of Small Specimens: A Study On Mesonephric Tubules And Vessels Of Chicken Embryos, A. Carretero, H. Ditrich, M. Navarro, H. Splechtna, J. Ruberte

The injection technique for corrosion casting of small, embryonic material can be improved by using a "chemical ligature" (cyanocrylate). With this simple method, leakage of the resin at the injection site is prevented and the mechanical stability of the cannula-vessel coupling is improved.

The blood vascular system of chicken embryos as small as Hamburger-Hamilton stage 24 (approximately 4.5 days of incubation) has successfully been injected using this procedure. Corrosion casts of the mesonephric tubular system have been made in a similar manner. Additionally, a simple way for secure transport of the fragile casts by immersion in 10% gelatin is suggested.

Primarily due to policy considerations, this Note argues that courts should allocate to the federal agency proposing an activity that may affect the coastal zone the burden of proving consistency with a state CMP. This allocation effectuates Congress's intent to vest states with primary control to preserve the coastal zone. Part I provides a general background of the Act's consistency requirement for federally conducted activities. Part II examines the various factors that courts traditionally consider when allocating burdens of proof in litigation. The existence of the search and seizure restrictions encoded in the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution is the result of a two part historical development that took place simultaneously in England and the American colonies. Severe legislative restrictions on the press were largely responsible for the developments in England, while in the colonies it was British tax and trade regulations that spawned the changes. Adolescent sexual intercourse can be viewed as a normal developmental experience, but intercourse also is linked to unplanned pregnancies, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Consequently, there continues to be a high level of scientific interest in understanding antecedents of adolescent sexual behavior, especially early and more risky sexual intercourse. This study examined several key antecedents of adolescent sexual intentions and behavior, including pubertal development (pubertal status, change over time, and pubertal timing), parent/teen communication, and teen sexual values. Objective data on the development of stuttering during its first several months are sparse. Such a deficit is due to parents' tendency to postpone professional consultation regarding early stuttering until later in the course of the disorder and to a lack of longitudinal studies beginning close to onset. This report presents information on a rare group of 16 preschool subjects who were evaluated within several weeks after stuttering onset and followed for 6 months using multiple measures. The findings show that often early stuttering takes on a moderate-to-severe form. Substantial changes occurred, however, during the 6 months of the study, …

Early theories of social-cognitive development emphasized children's unilateral respect for rules and authority (Piaget, 1932/65). Recently, however, children have been found to make conceptual distinctions among moral, conventional, and personal events. These distinctions are hypothesized to be related to the differential judgments that 6- to 8-year-old children have been shown to make about the emotional experience of others in these types of events (Arsenio & Ford, 1985). However, it is not known if preschoolers make similar distinctions between the affect of various participants in different event-types. The glp-1 gene product mediates cell-cell interactions required for cell fate specification during development in Caenorhabditis elegans. To identify genes that interact with glp-1, we screened for dominant suppressors of two temperature-sensitive glp-1 alleles and recovered 18 mutations that suppress both germline and embryonic glp-1 phenotypes. These dominant suppressors are tightly linked to glp-1 and do not bypass the requirement for a distal tip cell, which is thought to be the source of a signal that is received and transduced by the GLP-1 protein. Using single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis and DNA sequencing, we found that at least 17 suppressors …

The study area, referred to as the headquarters area, incorporates the area from the south entrance station north to the Zion Canyon bridge. This includes the visitor center, the Watchman and South campgrounds, the amphitheaters, the nature center, the Oak Creek, Watchman, and Pine Creek residential areas, and the Oak Creek maintenance area. The study area encompasses approximately 325 acres. It includes a development zone (107 acres) and a natural zone (218 acres), and is surrounded by a proposed wilderness subzone.

Since the early 19th century, American city planning and architectural design has sought to reconcile the city with the countryside. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, city planning focussed on bringing elements of the country to the urban landscape, while for much of the 20th century architectural designs sought to make the city more accessible to suburbanites.
