Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers
The task of this Phase 2 research program was to examine the economic performance of several recreation/attraction venues which might serve as role models for entry into various regional and major markets around the United States. The types of operations examined include: I. Family recreation centers, free-standing and mall related (like Forrest Fair in Cincinnati, River Falls in Clarksdale, Indiana, 49th Street Galleria in Salt Lake City and North Philadelphia, and Fame City in Houston). II. Adult-oriented night life activity expressed in venues such as the Sports Bar or Dave and Busters and other similar food and drink night spots …

Initial Climate Change Scenario For The Western United States, United States Department Of The Interior, Bureau Of Reclamation
Meterology
Observations of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations in recent decades have shown an accelerating upward trend due mainly to burning of fossil fuels. Physical considerations indicate that observed and projected increases in the concentrations of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will lead to significant global warming. Previous authors have followed both empirical and theoretical approaches to develop scenarios for changed climate conditions. The most common empirical approach is the use of analogs of global warming drawn from historical records and paleoclimates. The principal theoretical approach involves the interpretation of output for general circulation models …

Inter-American Indemnity: Internal Security And The Mutual Security Program For Latin America (1951-1961), Robert George Baker
Inter-American Indemnity: Internal Security And The Mutual Security Program For Latin America (1951-1961), Robert George Baker
Graduate Program in International Studies Theses & Dissertations
This thesis examines the purpose of U.S. military aid in the American Republics from 1951 through 1961 and proves that concern for internal security became dominant during that period. At first military aid supported hemispheric defense against communist aggression, which Washington orchestrated through mutual defense agreements, but by 1953 maintenance of internal security emerged as the major aim of aid to several Central American nations. In 1956 the National Security Council determined that internal security was a vital goal of the military aid program for Latin America. The ascendance of internal security concerns is described and analyzed in three parts: …
The Origins Of The Department Of Defense Recommendation To Cross The 38th Parallel During The Korean War, Wayne A. Kirkbride
The Origins Of The Department Of Defense Recommendation To Cross The 38th Parallel During The Korean War, Wayne A. Kirkbride
Graduate Program in International Studies Theses & Dissertations
This thesis considers the reasons the Department of Defense (DOD) developed its recommendation concerning the U.S. involvement in the Korean War. The United states initially committed its forces to restore the status quo antebellum. However, by 31 July 1950, the DOD recommended that a free, unified, and representative Korea should be the policy object of the war and that the occupation of all of Korea and the defeat of the North Korean armed forces north and south of the 38th Parallel should be the military objectives.
Several factors contributed to the recommendation of a change in policy and strategy. A …
Poison Pills: Developing A Canadian Regulatory And Judicial Response, Jody W. Forsyth
Poison Pills: Developing A Canadian Regulatory And Judicial Response, Jody W. Forsyth
Dalhousie Law Journal
It is trite to say that the United States has witnessed an explosion of hostile take-over activity in recent years. Potential acquirers have employed both non-coercive techniques such as conditional bids and proxy solicitations, and coercive techniques such as "street sweeps' 4 and two-tier, front-end loaded bids.5 In response, target corporations have fought back with a wide variety of" defences designed to defeat any undesired take-over attempt. One of the most widely contested of these defences is the shareholder rights plan, or "poison pill" as it is better known.

Notable Vincentians (5): John Delcros, Stafford Poole C.M.
Vincentian Heritage Journal
John Mary Delcros was one of the Vincentians working in the United States in the mid-nineteenth century. He spent most of his time in Louisiana, where he was an eloquent preacher, unafraid of speaking on controversial subjects. He was a spiritual director for Daughters of Charity and laypersons. He also successfully directed fundraising for the parish and seminary at Saint Stephen’s in New Orleans. He died as a result of a boiler explosion on the riverboat Pennsylvania, a tragedy that Mark Twain wrote about in Life on the Mississippi.

Notable Daughters Of Charity (3): Loretto Ryan, Frances Ryan D.C.
Vincentian Heritage Journal
Loretto Ryan influenced many to enter the Congregation and the Daughters of Charity and supported hundreds of sisters during their formation. Dedicated to others, she was particularly sensitive to the sisters’ family ties at a time when these were not acknowledged. She taught at Saint Stephen’s School in New Orleans, the Immaculate Conception Academy of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and Saint Louise de Marillac School in St. Louis. She was directress of Marillac Seminary for twenty-five years. She was provincial assistant and later served in many other places and capacities. The article, written by her niece, describes her personal qualities and …
