The Rising Presence Of Government In The Workplace, Murray L. Weidenbaum Nov 1991

The Rising Presence Of Government In The Workplace, Murray L. Weidenbaum

Murray Weidenbaum Publications

Debates over government regulation are often erroneously framed as a battle between business and the public interest. For government officials, however, regulation is an easy way to advance policy agendas without spending much federal money. But every time the government imposes new standards on the workplace or increases employee benefits, it imposes a more expensive method of production on businesses. Politicians are able to simultaneously vote for the better treatment of employees and criticize "greedy" companies. Consumers, meanwhile, suffer by paying for these hidden taxes.

The New Wave Of Environmental Regulation: The Impacts On Business And Consumers, Murray L. Weidenbaum Aug 1991

The New Wave Of Environmental Regulation: The Impacts On Business And Consumers, Murray L. Weidenbaum

Murray Weidenbaum Publications

Following the regulatory excesses of the 1970s and the reforms of the 1980s, the policy pendulum is swinging back again. On the surface, the government imposing socially desirable requirements on business seems to be a cheap way of achieving national objectives. But every time a government agency attempts to safeguard the environment or foster occupational health or promote product safety, it imposes a more expensive method of production on businesses. Consumers, meanwhile, suffer by paying for these hidden regulations.

A Narrative Analysis Of The Film The Great Debaters And Its Relationship To The Urban Debate League Movement, Nicholas J. Carrasco

Communication Studies

This project analyzes the plot of Denzel Washington’s 2007 film The Great Debaters alongside the Urban Debate League Movement in the intercollegiate policy debate community. Using anthropologist and hermeneutic critic Paul Ricouer’s conception of mimesis, the plot of the film is critiqued by its prenarrative assumptions, relationship to present time and its refiguration into the modern Urban Debate League Movement. Narrative elements such as character development and thematic representation are used to explain the influence exerted by the film. This research implies that the film The Great Debaters can be read over the development of the modern Urban Debate League …

The Effects Of Policy Development And Organizational Structure On The Performance Of Range Livestock Development Projects In Africa, Gregory Karl Perrier

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Range professionals are frequently involved in the arrangement of range development projects, both domestically and internationally. The success record of such projects has been uneven, particularly for projects in developing nations. The objective of this study was to provide range specialists a better understanding of potential management obstacles and barriers to success. This is accomplished through an examination of the management of three AID-funded pastoral development projects in Africa: the Tanzanian Masai Livestock and Range Management Project, the Somali Central Rangelands Development Project, and the Lesotho Lard Conservation and Range Development Project.

The study examined the effects of two important …

Human Service: A Framework For Education And Practice, Hyung Shik Kim, Roderic Underwood

Research outputs pre 2011

This paper sets out to deal with two main themes. The first theme considers the historical, political and social forces in human service delivery which were instrumental in the gradual recognition of human service as a field of academic study and practice. The paper firmly locates human services in organisational and administrative settings, in contrast to therapeutic or clinical orientations of the established helping professions.

The second theme deals with the domain of human services by incorporating the value commitment to meeting human needs. The normative position identifies human service as a field of study and practice which cuts across …
