Local Molecular Temperature, Donald Greenspan
Local Molecular Temperature, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers
For the study of phase-transition by molecular dynamics, the concept of local temperature is desirable. Such a concept, defined and studied previously for atoms, is extended in this paper to molecules. The fundamental formula involves Planck's constant, not Boltzmann's. Related dynamical calculations are described for approximating, theoretically, the melting points of N2, 02, CO, NO, and CH4, and the results are compared with those available experimentally.
Fetal Rights - A Bibliography, Rebecca S. Trammell
Fetal Rights - A Bibliography, Rebecca S. Trammell
Northern Illinois University Law Review
This annotated bibliography, focusing on fetal rights and maternal/fetal conflicts, attempts to identify significant medical and legal journal articles that address these issues from a legal perspective. Articles date from approximately 1970 through 1989.

Coy V. Iowa: The Effect Of A Face-To-Face Confrontation Requirement On Statutes Shielding Child Witnesses, Janet D. Glick
Northern Illinois University Law Review
This note examines the Supreme Court's decision which precludes the use of a screen to obstruct a witness' view of the defendant during a criminal trial. Although the Court attached great importance to the psychological impact of facing the accused, this note concludes the Coy decision will not serve to prohibit obstructing a witness' view of the defendant when such measures are found necessary to protect the witness.

Local Atomic Temperature, Donald Greenspan
Local Atomic Temperature, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers
For the study of phase-transition by molecular dynamics, the concept of local temperature is desirable. Such a concept is defined and studied in this paper. From computer studies of tetrahedral arrangements of four atoms, the constant which results in the formulation is Planck's constant, not Boltzmann's. Related dynamical calculations reveal that the approach yields good approximations for the melting point of the Noble gases, copper and alpha-iron.

The Study Of Paper Surface Efficiency, Wandee Charoenpholphibool
The Study Of Paper Surface Efficiency, Wandee Charoenpholphibool
Theses
Paper surface efficiency (PSE) is a response resulting from the combination of paper gloss and oil absorptivity. A review of previous studies regarding the effect of paper surface efficiency on printed process color appearance is presented. This previous work related densitometric responses to PSE in terms of hue error and grayness. This current study investigated the PSE response in a similar manner, but densitometric responses were replaced by colorimetry. The colorimetric terms used were chroma (C*), huedifference (AH*), and lightness(L*). These correspond to hue error and grayness of the densitometric responses. Simple linear regression models relating the PSE and each …

Visual Determination Of Color Differences Using Probit Analysis: Phase Ii, Lisa Reniff
Visual Determination Of Color Differences Using Probit Analysis: Phase Ii, Lisa Reniff
Theses
This experiment was an extension of research begun by Alman, Berns, Snyder, and Larsen with the purpose of developing a large set of data on the perception of medium (industrial) size color difference. In the current phase of the research the same experimental procedures were followed. A total of 50 observers were asked to make pass-fail judgements of sample pairs in comparison to an anchor pair that was near neutral with a CIELAB color difference of 1.0 unit. Several pairs of various color differences were evaluated along 119 vector directions originating from 19 color centers nominally spaced in CIELAB. There …
Being Of Shape: Being -- The Ground Through Which All Things Are, Ruth Schultz
Being Of Shape: Being -- The Ground Through Which All Things Are, Ruth Schultz
Theses
On these pages my intention is to address personal concerns about shape. 'Being of Shape' recognizes roots in form building of past centuries but concerns itself with shape development of this century. The intent here is not to define the words form and shape but to describe them in terms of painting. The paper will expand upon and support the paintings. Particularly, the paintings' forward, backward, and sideward progression is marked by considerations other than the history of painting. Perceptions about my nature and mental outlook as they exist in this world excite questions. Words written by those who have …
The Attempted Synthesis Of Novel Bis(Quadridentate) Niobium(Iv) Complexes And The Analyses Of The Products Resulting From The Attempted Synthesis Of Tetrakis (8-Hydroxyquinolinato) Niobium (Iv), John R. Pinkes
Theses
Four previously reported quadridentate ligands were synthesized, and the attempts made to synthesize the corresponding bis(quadridentate)niobium( IV) complexes are documented. Attempts made to synthesize the previously reported tetrakis(bidentate) niobium ( IV) complexes of benzoyltrifluoroacetylacetone (Nb(BTA)O1 and of 8- hydroxyquinoline (Nb(8-Q)4)t are also discussed. Though neither of the desired complexes was synthesized, the resulting complexes from the attempted synthesis of the Nb(8-Q)4 complex, and their subsequent analyses, are examined in detail. Along with the ligand syntheses and the attempted coraplexations , modifications in the experimental techniques and the apparatus are also discussed .
