An Analysis Of The Effect Of Network Load And Topology On The Performance Of Concurrency Control Algorithm In Distributed Database Systems, Anoop Singhal, Amit P. Sheth, Ming T. Liu

Kno.e.sis Publications

Earlier studies in the performance analysis of concurrency control algorithms in distributed database systems (DDBS) have assumed that the message transmission time between any two nodes of a network is constant. Hence they disregard the effect of communication subnet related parameters such as network traffic, network topology, the capacity of transmission channels and the size of messages transmitted. In this paper an analytical model is used to estimate the delays in transmission channels for a DDBS in a long haul network. The analysis shows that the constant transmission time assumption cannot be justified in many cases and that response time …

A Simple Model For Impurity Photoabsorption In Silicon, Gust Bambakidis Jun 1984

A Simple Model For Impurity Photoabsorption In Silicon, Gust Bambakidis

Physics Faculty Publications

A simple model for absorption of infrared radiation by impurity atoms in silicon crystals has been developed and applied to electronic excitations ofthe Group V donors Bi, Sb, As, and P, and the Group III acceptors B, AI, Ga, and In. The model is based on the quantum-defect method for approximating bound donor or acceptor wave functions outside the core region of the impurity. For each donor species, the relative oscillator strengths have been calculated for the transitions from the ground state to the first four excited levels. For each acceptor species, the relative oscillator strengths were calculated for transitions …

Perturbation Of Periodic Boundary-Conditions, Larry Turyn Jan 1984

Perturbation Of Periodic Boundary-Conditions, Larry Turyn

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications

We consider perturbations of the problem (*) - x'' + bx = lambda ax, x(0) - x(1) = 0 = x'(0) - x'(1) both by changes of the boundary conditions and by addition of nonlinear terms. We assume that at lambda = lambda 0 there are two linearly independent solutions of the unperturbed problem (*) and that a(dot) is bounded away from zero. When only the boundary conditions are perturbed either the Hill’s discriminant or the method of Lyapunov–Schmidt reduces the problem to 0 = det ((lambda - lambda 0)A - epsilon …
