Deltaic Sedimentation In Eastern Atchafalaya Bay, Louisiana., Ivor Llewellyn Van Heerden
Deltaic Sedimentation In Eastern Atchafalaya Bay, Louisiana., Ivor Llewellyn Van Heerden
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
A new Mississippi delta--now in the subaerial growth phase--is building in Atchafalaya Bay, south-central Louisiana, as the result of a natural upstream di-version. Early studies of this event documented gross accretion in Atchafalaya Bay. The present study focuses on subaerial delta lobe responses, stratigraphic development, and sedimentation processes that are incorporated into a model for delta growth. A sedimentological research program undertaken in the eastern half of the Atchafalaya delta has shown that two distinct stages of subaerial delta response are recognizable. The first (younger) re-sponse consists of channel extension, bifurcation, and development of sinuous overbank channels. A latter, more …
Stratigraphy Of The Inyan Kara Formation (Lower Cretaceous) In The Vicinity Of The Nesson Anticline, Northwestern North Dakota, Brad L. Wartman
Stratigraphy Of The Inyan Kara Formation (Lower Cretaceous) In The Vicinity Of The Nesson Anticline, Northwestern North Dakota, Brad L. Wartman
Theses and Dissertations
The Lower Cretaceous Inyan Kara Formation, at the base of the Dakota Group, consists of sandstone, siltstone, shale, and coal. The stratigraphy of the Inyan Kara and facies relationships within the formation and with the underlying Swift and overlying Skull Creek Formations in the vicinity of the Nesson Anticline, northwestern North Dakota, were evaluated using 11 cross-sections, 163 borehole geophysical logs, and 1 well core.
The Inyan Kara can be differentiated on well logs into three members. The basal member, "A", consists of sandstone, siltstone, shale, and coal. It is about 200 feet (60 m) to 400 feet (122 m) …

A Description Of The Soils And Geology Of The Berkshire Valley Experimental Catchment, M R. Wells, D J. Mcfarlane
A Description Of The Soils And Geology Of The Berkshire Valley Experimental Catchment, M R. Wells, D J. Mcfarlane
Resource management technical reports
Basic land resource data are provided in this report to assist an investigation of the effect of contour banking on surface runoff in the Berkshire Valley experimental catchement. Brief descriptions of the catchment's geology, soils and their inferred hydrological significance are provided and a 1:2000 scale map produced. Of major significance to the hydrologic study is the fact that soil depth and internal drainage conditions were found to be not related to landscape positions.

The Upper Proterozoic Redstone Copper Belt, Mackenzie Mountains, Nwt, Charles Wilson Jefferson
The Upper Proterozoic Redstone Copper Belt, Mackenzie Mountains, Nwt, Charles Wilson Jefferson
Digitized Theses
The Redstone Copper Belt is a 300 km arcuate zone of late Proterozoic stratabound copper occurrences within the Coates Lake Group (proposed) in the Mackenzie Mountains, N.W.T., Canada. The Coates Lake Group was deposited on the eroded surface of shallow marine carbonates and tholeiitic basalts at the top of the Little Dal Group. Six main areas of deposition and preservation were controlled by growth faults during the early part of the Hayhook extensional tectonism (About 750 Ma).;Three formations within the Coates Lake Group record transgression from alluvial fan to sabkha and shallow platformal marine conditions (Thundercloud Formation, proposed); regression from …

Petrology And Geochemistry Of The Silver Plume-Age Plutons Of The Southern And Central Wet Mountains, Colorado., Russell Berryman Bender Jr
Petrology And Geochemistry Of The Silver Plume-Age Plutons Of The Southern And Central Wet Mountains, Colorado., Russell Berryman Bender Jr
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The 1.43 billion-year-old Silver Plume-age intrusive complex of the central and southern Wet Mountains, Colorado, is subdivided into six units. In inferred order of intrusion, these include: the San Isabel batholith, the granite of Cliff Creek, the granite of Williams Creek, the granite of Bear Creek, the Wixson Divide pluton, and the granite of the Mount Tyndall quadrangle. All rocks are metaluminus to mildly peraluminus, calc-alkaline, and modally range from melanocratic biotite-hornblende-rich granite to leucocratic alaskite. The biotite-rich granites are non-eutectic and crystallized at a temperature of 710(DEGREES)C to 850(DEGREES)C. The leucocratic granites are eutectic and crystallized between 650(DEGREES)C and …

The Geochemistry And Mineralogy Of Recent Sediments Of The Niger Delta, Biodun Elijah Olorunfemi
The Geochemistry And Mineralogy Of Recent Sediments Of The Niger Delta, Biodun Elijah Olorunfemi
Digitized Theses
A study of the mineralogical and chemical composition of recent sediments of the Niger delta, Nigeria was undertaken to provide baseline geochemical data and to relate these data to soil fertility, erosion and engineering problems. The mineralogical composition shows that three areas are distinguished: (1) a large kaolinite-quartz zone; (2) restricted kaolinite-beidellite zone; and (3) a highly restricted metastable smectite zone mainly montmorillonite and nontronite. The mineralogy is interpreted as functions of stability, groundwater flow rates, permeability and sea water incursion. Type 1 occupies the dynamic central part of the delta where permeability exceeds 1 Darcy, with rainfall averaging 6.8 …

An X-Ray Scattering And Raman Spectroscopy Study Of Iron(3+), Gallium(3+) And Germanium(4+) Substituted Aluminosilicate Glasses, Grant Stephen Henderson
Digitized Theses
SiO(,2), KFeSi(,3)O(,8) and NaFeSi(,3)O(,8) glass structures were investigated using X-ray radial distribution function (RDF) and quasi-crystalline modelling. Vitreous SiO(,2) exhibits a mean Si-O bond distance of 1.60 (ANGSTROM) and Si ('O) Si angle of 151(DEGREES), similar to previous studies. Modelling of the structure against various SiO(,2) polymorphs suggest that vitreous SiO(,2) (v-SiO(,2)) can best be described as a tridymite-like network consisting of six-membered rings of SiO(,4) tetrahedra of which 2/3 are tridymite-like and 1/3 cristobalite-like.;The structures of KFeSi(,3)O(,8) and NaFeSi(,3)O(,8) glasses both have apparent T-O distances of 1.70 (ANGSTROM) but differ in T-T distances and T ('O) T angles; which …
