ACER historical documents
In this issue a description is presented of an ongoing study of the ACER Test of Learning Ability (TOLA). It was decided by ACER early last year to carry out a series of studies investigating a number of aspects of the test, such as its validity and the effect of reading ability on test scores. The first study (essentially a pilot study) was carried out in October last year (1971) and was primarily an investigation of the concurrent validity of the test. In August this year a further study will be carried out, examining the effect of the verbal nature …
An Evaluation Of Selected Aspects Of The Student Teaching Program In Physical Education At Utah State University, Clifford R. Andreasen
An Evaluation Of Selected Aspects Of The Student Teaching Program In Physical Education At Utah State University, Clifford R. Andreasen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study was an attempt to determine through a survey of opinions to what extent the objectives, methods and procedures were effectively being accomplished in the professional preparation of student teachers in physical education at Utah State University.
A questionnaire was developed and administered to student teachers who were currently completing their student teaching experience, and mailed to graduates who had completed their preparation program between 1966 and 1971.
The areas surveyed, the pre-student teaching preparation, the assistance given by the university supervisor and the assistance rendered by the cooperating teacher were for the most part found to be adequate …
Evaluation Of The Filter Paper Method For Estimating Soil Water Potential, Samir Al-Khafaf
Evaluation Of The Filter Paper Method For Estimating Soil Water Potential, Samir Al-Khafaf
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The filter paper method for measuring soil water potential was evaluated. The method was calibrated using salt solutions (-1.4 bars to -22.4 bars), sample chamber psychrometer (-1 to -50 bars), pressure plate (-0.1 to -15 bars) and soil column at equilibrium (0 to -0.2 bars). It was found that the absolute temperature had little effect on the predicted soil water potential, but a temperature variation had a large effect. It was found that the temperature fluctuation must be small. The predicted water potential was influenced by the type of contact of the soil with the filter paper. It is suggested …
An Evaluation Of The Farm Machinery Market In Utah, Paul J. Stuart
An Evaluation Of The Farm Machinery Market In Utah, Paul J. Stuart
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate the farm machinery distribution system in Utah using market structure analysis. Questionnaires to farm machinery firms as well as to farmers were used to gather data on market structure and conduct. The traditional market structure theory was used as an analytical framework. Examining the efficiency of factor markets revealed possible avenues for savings to farmers.
An Evaluation Of The Competitive Position Of Utah Livestock Production To Other Livestock Producing Areas, Kenneth H. Gray
An Evaluation Of The Competitive Position Of Utah Livestock Production To Other Livestock Producing Areas, Kenneth H. Gray
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this thesis is to make an evaluation of the competitive position of the Utah livestock industry by use of a linear programming model (MPS-360). This is on the basis of the least cost means of production to meet the quantity demanded of the livestock products. This is accomplished by dividing the United States into six regions where Utah is one of these regions to enable careful consideration of Utah's agricultural enterprises.
The agricultural products used in the analysis are beef, pork, broilers, turkeys, eggs and milk.
The feeds used for production are barley, wheat, corn, oats, milo, …

ACER historical documents
We have chosen to initiate this bulletin series by discussing the development of the Test of Learning Ability (TOLA) (Form A) because (i) the 1972 edition of the test will be distributed within the next few weeks and Counsellors will be able to see what has been the outcome of criticisms made about previous editions; (ii) we feel that this illustrates the potential benefit of close liaison between test constructors and test users in reconciling a variety of potential uses of a test. Liaison between the Test Advisory Committee and the ACER Test Research and Development Division has increased as …
