Unraveling The Origins Of Grb190114c: An Investigation Of Progenitor Models Through Observational Analysis, Nusrin Habeeb

Dissertations

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are among the most energetic and violent events in the universe, characterized by sudden and intense emission of gamma rays lasting from a fraction of a second to several minutes. The primary focus of this thesis is to study gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), with a specific emphasis on GRB190114C. GRB190114C is a long-duration GRB that was detected on January 14, 2019, by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) and the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT). It had a T90 duration of 116 s and a redshift of z = 0.4245, which corresponds to a luminosity distance of …

Permutation And Monomial Progenitors, Crystal Diaz Jun 2020

Permutation And Monomial Progenitors, Crystal Diaz

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

We searched monomial and permutation progenitors for symmetric presentations of important images, nonabelian simple groups, their automorphism groups, or groups that have these as their factor groups. In this thesis, we described our search for the homomorphic images through the permutation progenitor 2*15:(D5 X 3) and construction of a monomial representation through the group 23:3.

We constructed PGL(2,7) over 23:3 on 6 letters and L2(11) over 22:3 on 8 letters. We also give our construction of S5 X 2 and L2(25) as homomorphic images of the …

Molecular Analysis Of Cone Photoreceptor Genesis From A Specific Retinal Progenitor Population, Diego F. Buenaventura Feb 2019

Molecular Analysis Of Cone Photoreceptor Genesis From A Specific Retinal Progenitor Population, Diego F. Buenaventura

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

There are two types of photosensitive cells of the retina that contribute to image formation: Cone photoreceptors that mediate color discrimination and rods that provide photosensitivity in low-light conditions. Given the importance of cones in high acuity and color vision, deficiencies in this cell type that result from ailments such as retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeneration can lead to a debilitating loss of vision. Currently, one of the most pressing goals in the field of retinal development is the elucidation of the gene regulatory networks (GRN) involved in inducing an undifferentiated cell into becoming a functional cone photoreceptor.

Recently, an …

Monomial Progenitors And Related Topics, Madai Obaid Alnominy Mar 2018

Monomial Progenitors And Related Topics, Madai Obaid Alnominy

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

The main objective of this project is to find the original symmetric presentations of some very important finite groups and to give our constructions of some of these groups. We have found the Mathieu sporadic group M11, HS × D5, where HS is the sporadic group Higman-Sim group, the projective special unitary group U(3; 5) and the projective special linear group L2(149) as homomorphic images of the monomial progenitors 11*4 :m (5 :4), 5*6 :m S5 and 149*2 :m D37. We have also discovered 2 …

Progenitors Related To Simple Groups, Elissa Marie Valencia Jun 2015

Progenitors Related To Simple Groups, Elissa Marie Valencia

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

This thesis contains methods of finding new presentations of finite groups, particularly nonabelian simple groups. We have presented several progenitors such as 2^{*8}:Z_4 wr Z_2, 3^{*3}:_m L(2,7), 2^{*4}:[2:2^2], 2^{*11}:D_{11} and many more on which we've found the mathieu group M12 and 2*[M21:2^2] among their homomorphic images. We give the full monomial automorphism groups of Aut(3^{*2}), Aut(3^{*3}), and Aut(5^{*2}). Included is a proof showing that the full monomial automorphism group of Aut(m^{*n}) is isomorphic to U(m) wr S_n. In addition we have constructed the Cayley Diagrams of PGL(2,7), [3 x A_5]:2, 3:[A_6:2], and 2 x [(3 x L(2,11)):2] using the process …

Homomorphic Images And Related Topics, Kevin J. Baccari Jun 2015

Homomorphic Images And Related Topics, Kevin J. Baccari

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

We will explore progenitors extensively throughout this project. The progenitor, developed by Robert T Curtis, is a special type of infinite group formed by a semi-direct product of a free group m*n and a transitive permutation group of degree n. Since progenitors are infinite, we add necessary relations to produce finite homomorphic images. Curtis found that any non-abelian simple group is a homomorphic image of a progenitor of the form 2*n: N. In particular, we will investigate progenitors that generate two of the Mathieu sporadic groups, M11 and M11, as well as …

Developmental Origins Of Renal Connecting Tubule And Collecting Duct: Role Of Aqp2+ Progenitor Cells, Lihe Chen May 2015

Developmental Origins Of Renal Connecting Tubule And Collecting Duct: Role Of Aqp2+ Progenitor Cells, Lihe Chen

Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)

The connecting tubule interconnects the nephron and collecting duct, which arise from kidney mesenchyme and the ureteric bud, respectively, to generate the functional tubular networks. The collecting duct is comprised of principal cells and intercalated cells, which bear different molecular signatures and regulate sodium/water and acid/base balance, respectively. The progenitor cells of the connecting tubule and the collecting duct remain virtually unknown.

We generated two Aqp2 lineage tracing mouse models. In these models, Aqp2Cre transgene drives Cre expression by the Aqp2 promoter to exclusively either inactivate histone H3 K79 methyltransferase Dot1l (Dot1lf/f Aqp2Cre) or activate RFP in …

Symmetric Presentations And Related Topics, Mashael U. Alharbi

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

In this thesis, we have presented our discovery of symmetric presentations of a number of non-abelian simple groups, including the Mathieu group M12. We have given several progenitors, permutation and monomial, including 2*4:(22:3), 2*5:D10, 2*8:((4X2).D4), 3*7:m L2(7), 2*6:(Z3 wr Z2), and 2*24: (2. A5) and their homomorphic images which include 4.(M12:2), the group of automorphisms of M12 and several classical groups. We have given the isomorphism type of …

Insight Into Stage-Specific Effects Of Fibroblast Growth Factor Signaling On Dental Pulp Cells, Karen Sagomonyants Jul 2014

Insight Into Stage-Specific Effects Of Fibroblast Growth Factor Signaling On Dental Pulp Cells, Karen Sagomonyants

Doctoral Dissertations

Odontoblast differentiation and reparative dentinogenesis are dependent on multiple signaling molecules, including members of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) family. Previous studies have demonstrated both positive and negative effects of FGFs on odontoblast differentiation in dental pulp. However, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of these opposite effects are unclear. Therefore, the overall goal of the studies outlined in this dissertation was to gain insight into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the effects of FGF signaling on mineralization and dentinogenesis of pulp cells. To approach this goal, we used dental pulp cultures derived from the coronal portion of unerupted molars …

The Consequences Of Disrupting The Mdm2-P53 Balance In Hematopoiesis, Hussein A. Abbas May 2010

The Consequences Of Disrupting The Mdm2-P53 Balance In Hematopoiesis, Hussein A. Abbas

Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)

The bone marrow accommodates hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors. These cells provide an indispensible resource for replenishing the blood constituents throughout an organism’s life. A tissue with such a high turn-over rate mandates intact cycling checkpoint and apoptotic pathways to avoid inappropriate cell proliferation and ultimately the development of leukemias. p53, a major tumor suppressor, is a transcription factor that regulates cell cycle, and induces apoptosis and senescence. Mice inheriting a hypomorphic p53 allele in the absence of Mdm2, a p53 inhibitor, have elevated p53 cell cycle activity and die by postnatal day 13 due to hematopoietic failure. Hematopoiesis progresses …
