Strategic Landscape Utilization Of Undeveloped Lands Within Dallas Executive Airport Boundary: Airport Stormwater Management, Ali Khoshkar Dec 2018

Strategic Landscape Utilization Of Undeveloped Lands Within Dallas Executive Airport Boundary: Airport Stormwater Management, Ali Khoshkar

Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses

The purpose of this research is to investigate and propose a sustainable stormwater management improvement for the Dallas Executive Airport future master plan development while carefully considering wildlife preservation and the beautification of the new facility. The literature review draws upon documented research that global aviation growth causes increasing environmental issues. An in-depth review of the history of the airport’s environmental impact shows an increasing concern which ultimately lead to the assigned regulations. The research dives into existing environmental issues caused by air transportation, focusing specifically on stormwater pollutions at small airports and the applicable solutions within the airport boundary …

Assessment Of Expanding Light Rail Transit Systems Versus Highway Systems: Influence On Land Use Change And Habitat Fragmentation, Behnoud Aghapour Jul 2018

Assessment Of Expanding Light Rail Transit Systems Versus Highway Systems: Influence On Land Use Change And Habitat Fragmentation, Behnoud Aghapour

Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses

The purpose of this research is to assess and investigate the impact of expanding the Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems versus conventional highway systems for land use change, land formation, and habitat fragmentation in the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area as a highly developing urban area. The DFW metropolitan area is one of the fastest growing urban areas in the United States (U.S. Census Bureau, 2016). Successfully accommodating this population growth requires North Texans to collectively address important issues including: environmental degradation, suburbanization, suburban sprawl, landscape formation and fragmentation, lack of public transportation, community and well-being needs, transportation expansion, …

A Spatial Decision Support System Utilizing Data From The Gap Analysis Program And A Bayesian Belief Network, Jeremiah Percy Dumas Aug 2005

A Spatial Decision Support System Utilizing Data From The Gap Analysis Program And A Bayesian Belief Network, Jeremiah Percy Dumas

Theses and Dissertations

With increased degradation of natural resources due to land use decisions and the subsequent loss of biodiversity across large spatial scales, there is a need for a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) which showcases the impacts of developments on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The Gap Analysis Program (GAP) and a Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) were used to assess the impacts of an impoundment in the Bienville National Forest, Smith County, Mississippi on landcovers, threatened and endangered species, species richness and fish populations. A test impoundment site was chosen on Ichusa Creek and using GAP data, landcovers, species and species richness …
