Across the Southeastern United States, producers in the agricultural industry wage a constant struggle between combating negative economic impacts and discovering economic opportunity. Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) represent a crisis with wide-ranging economic impacts. The management of HABs presents a critical challenge for addressing the level of knowledge (LOK) and adaptability of Extension agents. Conversely, the emergence of markets for local and organic produce represents a burgeoning economic opportunity for producers. The growing trend of including more kale in the everyday American diet demands an assessment of those opportunities for local producers.

Tectonic Evolution Of The Tucki Mountain Metamorphic Core Complex, Southeastern California: Evidence For Late Cretaceous Extension Within The Sevier-Laramide Orogen, William Killey Barba Dec 2020

Tectonic Evolution Of The Tucki Mountain Metamorphic Core Complex, Southeastern California: Evidence For Late Cretaceous Extension Within The Sevier-Laramide Orogen, William Killey Barba

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

The exhumation of Cordilleran metamorphic core complexes from mid-crustal depths in the western U.S. Basin and Range Province has been classically associated with Cenozoic extension. However, recent studies reveal that extensional tectonic exhumation of numerous metamorphic core complexes initiated during the Late Cretaceous. New geologic mapping and structural analysis integrated with geochronology and thermochronology data provide evidence for a Late Cretaceous extensional shear zone, previously interpreted as Miocene in age, within the Tucki Mountain metamorphic core complex on the western flank of Death Valley, California. The shear zone occurs within the immediate footwall of the Miocene-Pliocene Tucki Mountain detachment fault …

Assessment Of Social Media Technical Support Efforts For Extension Agents, Mary Annabelle Stokes

Theses and Dissertations

Extension agents are tasked with disseminating educational content, announcing events, and promoting the outreach efforts of Extension. Social media can be a powerful resource for Extension agents (Skrabut, 2014). Integrating social media into outreach efforts can be an efficient way for agents to meet increasing work demands (Gharis & Hightower, 2017). Still, many Extension agents are not fully integrating social media as a means to communicate with their audiences (Garcia et al., 2018). To address this, Extension communication units are developing social media technical support efforts to increase the agents’ social media activity (Garcia et al., 2018, Newbury et al., …

Exploring Tensile Mechanics Of Cribellar Hypochilus Pococki, Morgan Waggoner Jan 2020

Exploring Tensile Mechanics Of Cribellar Hypochilus Pococki, Morgan Waggoner

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

The two major types of silk seen, are cribellate and viscid silk. Cribellate silk is produced by the behavioral trait of combing the silk with the spiders hindlegs to achieve the adhesion property needed to capture prey in a web. This study aims to classify the most primitive cribellate capture thread, from a species not studied thus far- Hypochilus pococki. Previous studies on cribellate silk, have produced extraordinary tensile results, increasing the need to study more cribellate species (Michalik et al, 2019). The results found suggest that Hypochilus pococki, does not exhibit extreme values of tensile mechanics, but more …

Louisiana 4-H Agents' Perceptions Of The 4-H Civic Engagement Mission Mandate, Xavier Bell Oct 2019

Louisiana 4-H Agents' Perceptions Of The 4-H Civic Engagement Mission Mandate, Xavier Bell

LSU Master's Theses

4-H, America’s largest youth development organization, allows “youth to engage in hands-on learning in areas such as health, science, agriculture, and civic engagement in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles” (National 4-H Council, n.d.) Generalizations Of Quandles And Their Cohomologies, Matthew J. Green Jul 2018

Generalizations Of Quandles And Their Cohomologies, Matthew J. Green

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Quandles are distributive algebraic structures originally introduced independently by David Joyce and Sergei Matveev in 1979, motivated by the study of knots. In this dissertation, we discuss a number of generalizations of the notion of quandles. In the first part of this dissertation we discuss biquandles, in the context of augmented biquandles, a representation of biquandles in terms of actions of a set by an augmentation group. Using this representation we are able to develop a homology and cohomology theory for these structures.

We then introduce an n-ary generalization of the notion of quandles. We discuss a number of properties …
