In hospitals in the United States, the ratio of nurses to patients is declining, resulting in an increase in work demands for nurses. Consequently, organizations face challenges with nurses' organizational commitment. Studies have revealed generational differences, as determined by birth year, in employee levels of organizational commitment in a number of organizational settings. Recent events in emerging countries concerning supplier unethical practices and the resulting fatalities have stressed the need for social responsibility in supply chains. Rising consumer awareness regarding such events and their negative impact pose a challenge in supply management decisions for firms. This research integrates the risk of supplier irresponsibility and the impact of such events from the consumer perspective in developing supply management decision models for maximizing economic performance of firms. This study tests whether the PCAOB achieves its goals of issuing inspection reports that provide meaningful and value-adding information for external investment decisions, as measured by investor reaction. The study measures informative value by examining cumulative abnormal stock returns of all companies that had an auditor inspected in 2012. Also tested was 'Big Four' versus other annually inspected firms, as well as 12 significant industries. This study provides statistical evidence that investors respond to PCAOB inspection reports, the responses of which are typically positive. These results demonstrate that investors recognize inspection reports as value-relevant, and consquently use them to make …

Us Real Estate Investment Performance: 1983-2012, John F. Kerrigan

This study provides an overview of real estate investment performance over a 1983-2012 time period. The results show that although equity REITs outperformed all other assets on average annual return, on a risk-adjusted basis both private retail and apartment real estate outperformed all other assets. The study also found a recent trend in increased correlation between common stocks and REITs.
