Teacher Job Satisfaction In The Georgia Department Of Juvenile Justice School System, Rufus Douglas Williams

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Job satisfaction can be viewed as somewhat of a reflection of how an employee feels they are treated within the work setting and can also affect physical and emotional well-being. Concerns about supervisory relationships, expectations, working conditions, peer relationships, and communication channels are key factors in determining job satisfaction for teachers. Consequently, the level of job satisfaction a teacher feels toward his or her job can affect organizational functioning and may become a reflection of organizational functioning. The researcher administered a Likert-scale survey, The Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, developed by Spector to 241 teachers who work in correctional facilities in the …

Teachers' Reaction To Gangs And School Violence And The Mediating Effects Of Security Measures On Intentions To Leave Teaching, Suzanne King Oct 2009

Teachers' Reaction To Gangs And School Violence And The Mediating Effects Of Security Measures On Intentions To Leave Teaching, Suzanne King

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

The increase in youth gangs since the late 1980s and the related violence that has erupted in the schools has fueled the public's fear of these gangs. With the strong and proven correlation between the presence of gangs and guns and drugs in schools, this fear seems justified. The increase in violence on school campuses has created an environment of fear, which in turn has added to teacher stress, burnout, and attrition. In response, schools have teamed with law enforcement personnel to build and maintain safe schools and to provide for a safe teaching environment.

The purpose of this study …

Influencing The Opinions And Beliefs Of Teachers And Counselors Middle School Advisory, Chelsea Coleman Watson

Dissertations

Developmentally responsive middle schools provide young adolescents with a culture of caring that translates into action when the adults are attentive to the needs of the students. It is necessary for teachers and counselors to address the academic, social, and emotional well being of students. A philosophy held in middle schools with advisory programs is that every child should be known well by at least one adult, and a relationship facilitated with an adult advisor and a small group of peers is noteworthy. This research included a mixed methods experimental one-group pretest-posttest formulated to answer the following question: How do …

Understanding The Use Of Video Analysis Tools To Facilitate Reflection Among Preservice Teachers, Tonya R. Tripp

Theses and Dissertations

Research states that reflection is the foundation for improved teaching (Dewey, 1933). As a result, educators have used many methods to facilitate teacher reflections. Some of these methods include keeping reflective journals, conducting peer teaching sessions, providing written feedback, giving lesson critiques, conducting action research projects, and using reflective conferences (Cook, Young & Evenson, 2001). As video has become more accessible, educators have also become interested in using video analysis tools to facilitate teacher reflections. However, very little has been published on how the use of video analysis tools influences teacher reflections. If reflection is the foundation for improved teaching, …

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

A southeastern American university school of education has implemented a clinical faculty program to which interested K-12 teachers apply, and if accepted are trained how to mentor student teachers. At the time of this study there were not enough clinical faculty for every student teacher; therefore, some student teachers were placed with (untrained) cooperating teachers for their clinical experience. This study compared the experience student teachers had with cooperating teachers versus with clinical faculty to begin to determine if the implementation of the clinical faculty training has an effect on student teacher self-efficacy.
