Statmod: A Tool For Interfacing Arcview® Gis With Statistical Software To Facilitate Predictive Ecological Modeling, Christine M. Garrard
Statmod: A Tool For Interfacing Arcview® Gis With Statistical Software To Facilitate Predictive Ecological Modeling, Christine M. Garrard
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
As geographical information systems and spatial data become more accessible, predictive spatial modeling in ecology is becoming more common. Unfortunately, not all ecologists possess the necessary skills to successfully combine statistical models and geographical information systems. In response to this problem, I wrote an extension for ArcView® GIS called StatMod. This extension interfaces ArcView GIS with SAS® and S-PLUS® statistical software and walks the user through creating and mapping logistic regression and classification and regression tree models.
StatMod was then used to run a series of analyses that would have been difficult without such a tool. A …
Public Participation In Environmental Management: Seeking Participatory Equity Through Ethnographic Inquiry, John V. Stone
Public Participation In Environmental Management: Seeking Participatory Equity Through Ethnographic Inquiry, John V. Stone
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation reports the activities, methods, and key findings of a doctoral research project in applied anthropology and an environmental anthropology fellowship. The research project was conducted through the Department of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, while the fellowship was sponsored jointly by the Society for Applied Anthropology and the United States Environmental Protection Agency and was conducted through the Great Lakes Fellowship Program of the Great Lakes Commission, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Together, these projects demonstrated the utility of an ethnographic approach called Risk Perception Mapping (RPM) to the public consultation and social research interests of the Commission …
Gis For Source Water Assessment And Nonpoint Source Modeling In The Las Vegas Valley, Marcelo Reginato
Gis For Source Water Assessment And Nonpoint Source Modeling In The Las Vegas Valley, Marcelo Reginato
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
This thesis develops a better understanding of issues related to surface water contamination and protection of drinking water sources in the Las Vegas Valley. A Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to identify source water protection zones and to estimate nonpoint source loads for the entire watershed; The extent of the source water protection zones is represented by the valley's dry weather flows. After source water protection zones were defined, field work and GIS defined the potential contaminant sources and land uses within the protection zones; The GIS nonpoint source model shows that roads account for approximately 25% of the …
Using Geographic Information System (Gis) In A Local Government--A Case Study Of Gis Implementation In Ascension Parish Government, Louisiana, Hongwei Zhao
LSU Master's Theses
The objective of this paper is to argue for a new model of Geographic Information System (GIS) implementation, Web-based GIS, for supporting decision-making in local government. In this paper, the GIS implementation in Ascension Parish Government, Louisiana is used as a case study to show how Web-based GIS implementation can improve the system use and maximize the value of GIS infrastructures for the community. The author first defines the concept of implementation and role of GIS in local government as a base for further discussion. Special attention is given to analyze the variables that influence the parish employees’ acceptance and …
A Spatio-Temporal Data Model For Zoning, Philip J. Uhl
A Spatio-Temporal Data Model For Zoning, Philip J. Uhl
Theses and Dissertations
Planning departments are besieged with temporal/historical information. While for many institutions historical information can be relegated to archives, planning departments have a constant need to access and query their historical information, particularly their historical spatial information such as zoning. This can be a cumbersome process fraught with inaccuracies due to the changing organizational methods and the extended historical legacies of most municipalities. Geographic Information Systems can be a tool to provide a solution to the difficulties in querying spatio-temporal planning data. Using a data model designed specifically to facilitate the querying of historical zoning information, queries can be performed to …
The Use Of Geographic Information Systems To Study Repeat Victims Of Domestic Abuse In The Waterloo Region Of Ontario, Canada, Claudia Saheb
The Use Of Geographic Information Systems To Study Repeat Victims Of Domestic Abuse In The Waterloo Region Of Ontario, Canada, Claudia Saheb
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
The importance of repeat victims as an effective target for crime prevention measures has been widely recognised. Many have studied repeat victims of property crimes, but few have studied repeat victims of personal crimes and their spatial distribution. This study used 1996 and 1997 crime data from the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) in Ontario, Canada and focused specifically on domestic-abuse-related crimes and repeat victims of those crimes. Various methods of mapping and analysis were used to better understand the spatial distribution of those crimes and vulnerability of the victims. Standardised crime rates and crime density were calculated. Thematic and …
Validation Of Annagnps At The Field And Farm-Scale Using An Integrated Agnps/Gis System, Glenn M. Suir
Validation Of Annagnps At The Field And Farm-Scale Using An Integrated Agnps/Gis System, Glenn M. Suir
LSU Master's Theses
Non-Point Source (NPS) pollution models are effective watershed-scale predictors of NPS loadings and useful evaluators of agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) and water quality Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). The work reported in this thesis examined two applications of the AGricultural Non-Point-Source (AGNPS) pollution model: 1) predicting surface runoff, nutrient loading, and sediment yield predictions for an artificially delineated farm-scale watershed; and 2) evaluating relative benefits of different BMPs on reducing sediment accumulation in a lake surrounded by agricultural land. A procedure using identification, extraction, and processing of critical area data using an ArcView Geographic Information System (GIS) was used …
Spatial Models Of Hawaiian Streams And Hawaiian Stream Fish Habital, James Elliott Parham
Spatial Models Of Hawaiian Streams And Hawaiian Stream Fish Habital, James Elliott Parham
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
A series of spatially based models of Hawaiian streams and stream fish habitats were developed to aid in the conservation of native fishes. The spatial models focused on the quantification of habitat for native fishes at three levels within a spatial hierarchy. First, at the reach level, the models classified the major geomorphological features of a stream and its watershed to determine the distribution of fish habitat within the different sections of the stream. The distribution of habitat was combined with habitat suitability criteria and the migratory abilities of the native fishes to quantify available habitat and predict expected community …
