The Interaction Of Ultraviolet-B Radiation Stress And Plant Competition In Agricultural Plant Populations, Warren Glenn Gold
The Interaction Of Ultraviolet-B Radiation Stress And Plant Competition In Agricultural Plant Populations, Warren Glenn Gold
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The effect of ultraviolet-B radiation enhancement upon the competitive interactions of two species pairs was studied in the field. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L. 'Bannock') was paired with wild oat (Avena fatua L.) and jointed goatgrass (Aegilops cylindrica Host) to represent competition between species pairs in agricultural situations. Specially modulated ultraviolet lamp systems provided either low ultraviolet-B enhancement (simulation of a 16 % ozone layer reduction based upon the generalized plant action spectrum), high ultraviolet-B enhancement (40 % ozone reduction) or control (ambient solar ultraviolet-B) irradiance.
Ultraviolet-B radiation enhancement significantly altered the competitive interactions of the species pairs. …
Innovativeness, Knowledge Of Location, And Contact With Extension Agents By Upland Rice Smallholders In Sierra Leone., Harry Norman Archer
Innovativeness, Knowledge Of Location, And Contact With Extension Agents By Upland Rice Smallholders In Sierra Leone., Harry Norman Archer
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The objectives of the study were to determine the characteristics and innovativeness of the smallholders of Sierra Leone, relate this to their knowledge of the location and contacts with the extension agents and to formulate recommendations for achieving self-sufficiency in rice. A total of 102 respondents were queried in this study. Seventy-four upland rice smallholders were selected from an original sample of 1500 which was drawn through a multi-stage cluster sampling technique and the remaining 28 were selected based on subjective criteria. Personal interview schedules were used to collect the data. The descriptive method was used to analyze the personal …
Factors Associated With Research And Extension Work In Livestock Production In The Ivory Coast., Nathalie Zongo N'Guessan
Factors Associated With Research And Extension Work In Livestock Production In The Ivory Coast., Nathalie Zongo N'Guessan
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The overall objective of this study was to gather basic information about livestock programs in the Ivory Coast, and to determine factors that may be impeding the successful accomplishment of these programs. One hundred and two livestock producers were interviewed--72 who were members of SODEPRA and 32 who were not. The data from the field study were coded onto computer sheets and transferred to punched cards and percentages and Chi-Square Values were calculated. The major dependent variable, membership in SODEPRA, was related to the independent variables in the study. Chi-Square values were used to determine if there was a significant …
An Analysis Of The Economic Impact Of Agricultural Production Expenditures On The Louisiana Economy., Liang Chew Huam
An Analysis Of The Economic Impact Of Agricultural Production Expenditures On The Louisiana Economy., Liang Chew Huam
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study provides an analytical framework via a simultaneous equations model for estimating the economic impact of agricultural production expenditures of the economy of Louisiana and nine intrastate farming areas producing different combination of major farm enterprises. The simultaneous equations model containing six linear equations and an identity describes the structural relationships between six endogenous and five predetermined variables. Economic impact multipliers were estimated for key performance variables, such as employment, earnings, personal income and retail sales. An exogenous increase of a dollar in agricultural expenditure, the variable used to reflect changes in farm production, was estimated to generate a …
An Econometric Analysis Of Us Farmland Prices, 1941 To 1980 (United States), Daniel Lee Dunn
An Econometric Analysis Of Us Farmland Prices, 1941 To 1980 (United States), Daniel Lee Dunn
Doctoral Dissertations
The value of farmland in the United States comprises approximately seventy-five percent of the total value of farm assets. U.S. farmland prices have risen steadily since 1940. The period of 1970 to 1980, however, exhibits an increased rate of growth in average farmland values.
Rapid farmland price inflation could have implications for the structure of the American farming sector. An increase in the concentration of control of farm production assets, the raising of barriers to entry into agriculture and pressures on rural farm financial institutions from increased leveraging of farm loans may all result from increasing farmland values.

An Economic Analysis Of Alternative Marketing Strategies For Northeast Louisiana Soybean Producers., Edward Joe Jordan
An Economic Analysis Of Alternative Marketing Strategies For Northeast Louisiana Soybean Producers., Edward Joe Jordan
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study evaluates marketing strategies for Louisiana soybean producers and the influence of selected supply and demand factors on these strategies' performance. Primary data from 100 producers were used to identify marketing strategies. Means and variances of returns were estimated for 41 marketing strategies for the 1975-1979 period. Forward contracting yielded the largest mean returns although its variances exceeded harvest sales' variances. Unhedged storage yielded significantly higher mean returns and lower variances than hedged storage strategies. Strategies involving the hedging of growing crops generated mean returns not significantly different from forward contracting strategies and variances which were relatively less than …
