Analysis Of Ink Film Thickness On Screenless Lithographic Plates By Microscopy, James Spruill Summers
Analysis Of Ink Film Thickness On Screenless Lithographic Plates By Microscopy, James Spruill Summers
Theses
Printing without the use of a halftone screen pattern offers many advantages, although most processes utilized are impractical for long run commercial printing. Screenless lithography provides a practical means of making unscreened reproductions. While screenless lithography has been in use for many years, its working mechanisms have only recently been explained. Past studies have investigated many of the factors which contribute to the continuous tone effect of screenless printing, but none have scientifically determined if ink film thickness variation is a contributing factor. Positive working lithographic plates were exposed to control scales, processed, inked, and allowed to dry. These plates …
Polymerization Of Disubstituted Conjugated Dienes: Synthesis Of 1, 3-Diphenyl-1, 3-Butadiene, David Allen
Polymerization Of Disubstituted Conjugated Dienes: Synthesis Of 1, 3-Diphenyl-1, 3-Butadiene, David Allen
Theses
1, 3-Diphehyl-l, 3-butadiene 3 has been found to rapidly undergo the Diels-Alder reaction at room temperature to yield 1, 3, 4-triphenyl-4-styrylcyclohexene 10. The dimer was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrosopy. The isomeric diphenylbutadienes were of interest as a model system to study the interaction of steric hindrance and electronic effects in the homopolymerization of disubstituted butadienes. Several synthetic routes to an appropriate tosylate for base catalyzed elimination at low temperatures to avoid dimerization of the monomer were explored and found unsuccessful for various reasons. The monomer was trapped as an iron tricarbonyl complex. This complex …

Theoretical Determination Of Optimum Split-Filter Exposures For Color-Correction Masks, Jang-Fun Chen
Theoretical Determination Of Optimum Split-Filter Exposures For Color-Correction Masks, Jang-Fun Chen
Theses
Workers have found that a split-filter mask made by consecutive exposures through red, green, and blue filters provides better color correction than a mask exposed through a single filter. Nevertheless, split-filter masking has never been adopted in the direct screen separation method. This may be due to the difficulty of determining the opti mum red: green: blue split-filter exposures. This thesis ad dresses the problem of determining the optimum split-filter ratios needed to expose masks for the direct screen sepa ration method. Optimum exposure ratios were determined with the as sistance of a digital computer by systematically trying out 231 …
Reactions Of Nitrogen Dioxide With Chloride And Bromide Salts, Thomas Allston
Reactions Of Nitrogen Dioxide With Chloride And Bromide Salts, Thomas Allston
Theses
Infrared absorption spectroscopy was used to study the reaction of nitrogen dioxide with a number of halide salts: MX (s) + 2N02 (g), XNO (g) + MN03 (s), where M = metal and X = halogen (CI, Br). This reaction was observed for the chloride and bromide salts of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. These reactions do not reach thermodynamic equilibrium, and evidence is presented that they are surface controlled. These reactions are very fast and evidence is reported for the relative rates of the chloride and bromide salts. The following mechanism may explain the observed experimental results: (M+X-)(s) + …

Generation Of Software To Produce A Landsat Scene Comprised Only Of Pseudo Invariant Features, Martha C. Leahy
Generation Of Software To Produce A Landsat Scene Comprised Only Of Pseudo Invariant Features, Martha C. Leahy
Theses
The purpose of this thesis work was to provide soft ware in Fortran programming language that will read, print and process data contained on Landsat computer compatible tapes. The programming was done on the Xerox Sigma 9 computer at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The processing involved reading and re-registering fractions of files and performing simple numeric operations on the digital spectral radiance values of individual picture elements. The result was a fraction of a Landsat scene containing pixels that are classified as vegetation, water, mixed elements or invariant features.
The Ability Of Surfactants To Assist In The Removal Of Image Scum In Positive Resist Development, Michael P. Belden
The Ability Of Surfactants To Assist In The Removal Of Image Scum In Positive Resist Development, Michael P. Belden
Theses
An experiment was run to determine the ability of surfactants to reduce or remove scum produced during development of a positive resist. Anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants were added to a low metal ion developer at concentrations between 0.025% and 0.57o. The film thickness loss due to development was measured, and image profiles were observed with scanning electron micrographs . Of the surfactants tried, Aerasol OT-75 (dioctyl ester of sodium sulfosuccinic acid) produced the best results, 9.57o film thickness loss with little image profile change. However, the experiment was limited by processing condition variables.

An Investigation And Implementation Of Recommendation X.25 On A Motorola M6800 Based Network, Louis Nyerges
An Investigation And Implementation Of Recommendation X.25 On A Motorola M6800 Based Network, Louis Nyerges
Theses
A subset of the Recommendation X.25 protocol is implemented on a two node network. Each node accepts and translates data from the user in a sequential fashion into the appropriate protocol structure for transmission to another node. Each node has the capability of full duplex operation. The hardware is built around a Motorola M6800 microprocessor employing a minimum of 4096 words of random access memory and two asynchronous ports: one for communication with the user and the other for communication with the network. The software on each node contains the protocol programs and a multitasking monitor which is used to …

A Relationship Between Self-Actualization And The Practice Of Zen Meditation, William Charles Compton
A Relationship Between Self-Actualization And The Practice Of Zen Meditation, William Charles Compton
Student Work
A review of the Iiterature on the psychological variables which have been associated with Zen meditation revealed a close correspondence between the stated goals of Zen meditation and the personality characteristics of the self-actualized individual hypothesized by Maslow. A review of the experimental literature on the relationship between Zen meditation and self-actualization showed contradictory findings concerning the effectiveness of Zen meditation for enhancing self-actualization. However, Kirschner’s results indicated that a nine month learning period may exist for Zen meditation. It was therefore hypothesized that Zen meditation would not effect self-actualization scores until after this learning period was completed. The Personal …

Physical Attractiveness: Its Influence On The Perception Of Counselors, Connie H. Sanders
Physical Attractiveness: Its Influence On The Perception Of Counselors, Connie H. Sanders
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
60 undergraduate students evaluated male and female counselors on fifteen counselor variables based on listening to a tape recording of a counselor self-introduction paired with an attractive or unattractive picture. Two groups served as control groups; they heard the tape but received no picture. The attractive counselor was perceived as significantly more decisive, interesting, caring, open-minded, likable and better adjusted than the unattractive counselor. These effects were more pronounced for the female counselors than for the male counselors.
