Timing Of Burning And Mowing Management Of A Bluestem Prairie In Eastern Nebraska., Edward I. Hover

This study evaluates the effects of time of mowing on species composition and inflorescence phenology in a bluestem prairie and contrast mowing and burning treatments. Treatment areas in a native prairie, with a history of summer mowing, were burned and mowed in April and evaluated in June and August of the same year. While reflecting only a single year’s treatment, the study indicated that summer mowing favors cool season grasses, such as porcupinegrass (Stipa spartea), and selects against warm season grasses such as big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii). Biology, Reproductive Potential And The Impact Of Fishing Pressure On The Bluegill Fishery Of Pelican Lake, Uintah County, Utah, Bob D. Burdick

Certain aspects of the biology of two species of fish, bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) and largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), and the assessment of fishing pressure upon the sport fishery of Pelican Lake, Uintah County, Utah, a 680 ha warmwater lake, were studied between April 1, 1976 and June 30, 1978. The growth rate of bluegills (sexes combined) was fairly rapid; the mean back-calculated total lengths from ages one through nine were 55, 112, 166, 194, 211, 229, 245, 256 and 259 mm. Introduction: Since the 1890 publishing of Webbers "Catalogue of ' the Flora of Nebraska," very little has been written about the moss flora of this state. From Webbers original list of 47 species, the number increased to 75 in 1924 (Wolf) and finally to 99 species in 1977 (Churchill and Redfearn). Also, in 1975 Koch has written about the occurrence of the family Pottiaceae in Nebraska.

The objectives of this study were to determine if a relationship exists between selected morpho-physiological traits and general combining ability for yield in determinate and indeterminate tomato inbred lines, to determine if a relationship exists between these traits and the average probability that an inbred can produce transgressive segregates, and to determine if the levels of some physiological traits that contribute to yield differ between growth habits.
Among determinate inbreds, general combining ability for yield is significantly correlated with yield and fruit number but not with harvest index, photosynthesis, specific leaf weight, or average fruit size. Among indeterminates, general combining …
