INTRODUCTION

THE OCCULT IN FOLK PATTERNS OF NEGRO THOUGHT: CONJURING - A STUDY IN CULTURAL-INTELLECTUAL HISTORY

Statement of Problem:

How do you write about the masses of the people? How about the masses of Negroes especially since they leave so few documents? Up to now Negro students have written about intelligent, literate Negroes and have been ashamed of the crudities of the masses. Men like John Hope Franklin, who wrote From Slavery To Freedom, and Earl Thorpe, The Negro Mind are examples of this tendency. As J. Frank Dobie has said:

"The folk-mind is untutored but it is not at …

St. Bernard Of Clairvaux And Martin Luther On Monasticism, James Pragman May 1965

St. Bernard Of Clairvaux And Martin Luther On Monasticism, James Pragman

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Actually, the study of the relationship between Luther and Bernard is an investigation into the Catholic Luther, a study of Luther's medieval theological heritage. Although Luther reformed the church and reoriented its theology, he retained an appreciation for those Christian theologians and churchmen who had preceded him and were transmitting to him the faith once delivered to the saints. In the investigation of one or more aspects of the relationship between Luther and Bernard, one confronts an interesting illustration of Luther's appreciation of the medieval Catholic tradition. The serious student of Luther must recognize that Luther basically approached the history …

The United Church Of Canada History Of The Unon Of The Presbyterian, Methodist, And Congregational Churches Of Canada, Walter Seehagel

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This study concerns itself with the movement which brought The United Church of Canada into being. The writer is concerned not so much with the theology and the psychology of the movement, as he is with the history of the movement. Accordingly, the study will endeavor to set forth "how" The United Church of Canada came into being, and not “why" it came into being. It will therefore trace the union movement step by step until its consummation on June 10, 1925.

A History Of The Episcopal Church In Omaha From 1856 To 1964, James M. Robbins Jr Jan 1965

A History Of The Episcopal Church In Omaha From 1856 To 1964, James M. Robbins Jr

Student Work

There are three reasons for writing a history of the Episcopal Church in Omaha with an emphasis on the foundation years. This period covers the years 1856 to 1960. First, there is a desire for a complete understanding of the history of Omaha and the various institutions that helped to make the city. Second, there is a request to have a greater understanding of the development and growth of the State of Nebraska. And thirdly, there never has been a history of the activities of the Episcopal Church in Omaha.

Problems Of Assimilation And Cultural Pluralism Among Chinese-Americans In San Francisco : An Exploratory Study, James Wilbur Chin

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

For many years a difference of opinion has existed regarding inter-ethnic relations dealing specifically with the Chinese-Americans. This is all part of the process of social change which is currently taking place in the United States. Not only the Chinese-Americans, but other minorities as well, are attempting to find their place within the American society. Therefore, a study of the Chinese-Americans is very timely. Hopefully this study will contribute to the larger body of theory dealing with intergroup relations.
