The Evans Site: A Contribution To The Archaeology Of The Gallina Region, Northern New Mexico, Charles H. Lange
Anthropology ETDs
The Gallina Region in northern New Mexico is most accurately located by the intersection of 36 degrees 22' North parallel and the 101 degrees 52' West meridian. This is nearly the point at which the Llegua River, coming from the continental Divide about ten miles to the west, flows into the Gallina River (Plate II, a). A circle with this confluence as a center and with a fifteen-mile radius, would include the major portion of the ruins belonging to the Gallina group. Additional sites have been located west of the Divide in the Largo, Companero, Governador (Gobernador) drainages; south in …

Providing Science Laboratory Equipment At Minimum Expense, James Ira Wood
Providing Science Laboratory Equipment At Minimum Expense, James Ira Wood
Master's Theses
The purpose of this report is to present plans and directions for laboratory apparatus, which may be built, by the instructor and pupils themselves from inexpensive materials. The report describes projects undertaken in approaching this problem in a particular school. It is not a complete laboratory manual. The equipment is not all that would be needed either in a course in general science or in physics. It is assumed that some laboratory supplies other than those made by pupils must be purchased, but many simple pieces of apparatus may be built in the classroom by the pupils with great economy. …

The Formation And Study Of Certain Benzoins And Some Of Their Derivatives, Samuel Budd Williams
The Formation And Study Of Certain Benzoins And Some Of Their Derivatives, Samuel Budd Williams
All Theses
The Purpose of This Work
The ability of certain substances to under-go additional reactions is the organic chemist's primary criterion of unsaturation, and the three distinct types of organic compounds which meet this requirement constitute the great bulk of organic chemistry. In substances of the first type, unsaturation is associated with a strained ring structure and additional reactions result in ring opening. Cylopropane and ethylene oxide are examples. In substances of the second type, unsaturation is confined to a single atom and addition reactions result in an increase in valence of that atom. Triphenlymethyl and trimethylamine are examples. In substances …

Recreational Activities Of Blackshear Elementary School, Virginia Bell Perry
Recreational Activities Of Blackshear Elementary School, Virginia Bell Perry
All Theses
The Purpose of the Study
The problem of recreational activities is both a wide and a complex one. It is an aspect of the wider problem of education in which physical, intellectual and moral training are collateral and overlapping branches.
In order to understand more clearly the meaning and need of the term recreation, we need only to ask ourselves these questions: What is the work of the whole human being in life? To what extent does physical development and recreation help him to enter into and live this life more abundantly? S. S. Pressey says, "What we today term …

The Analysis Of Cantilever Plates With Concentrated Loads, Constant Roberts Marks
The Analysis Of Cantilever Plates With Concentrated Loads, Constant Roberts Marks
Masters Theses
(From the Introduction)
The problem of a cantilever plate or slab with variable, discontinuous, concentrated, or eccentric loading occurs frequently in engineering design. Examples are substructure walls, piers, projecting floor slabs, and gear teeth. The solution of most of these problems can be made to depend on the analysis of the plate in question loaded with one or more concentrated loads. Such analyses are available for only a few cases of loading, and no practical method is available to the designer for making any kind of a reasonably accurate stress analysis for many cases he may encounter.

Soils Of Knox County In Relation To Physiography And Parent Material, Li Lien Chieh
Soils Of Knox County In Relation To Physiography And Parent Material, Li Lien Chieh
Masters Theses
Parent material is defined as the unconsolidated residue of rock weathering from which soils develop. It may be shallow or deep, coarse or fine, acid or alkaline; it may be exceedingly resistant to change or it may be subject to rapid alteration. Because such variations have a great influence on the course of soil development, and the properties of the resultant soils, an understanding of the parent material is a basic step in soil study.
The purpose of this study, then, is to describe the physiography and parent material of Knox County, and correlate these factors of the environment with …

There Were Thirteen: A Pioneer Novel Of Western Kansas, Gwen Lane Funston
Master's Theses
In my thesis, I wish to present the story of my maternal grandmother as it is revealed in the lives of her thirteen children. I have been interested in the story since I can remember. My earliest memories are of sitting on Grandma’s lap and listening to tales of Indians on the warpath, of Kansas prairie sod houses and rattlesnakes, and of what my aunts, uncles, and my mother used to do when they were small. To avoid any possible embarrassment to living persons, I have fictionized the names of my characters. I have, however, retained all actual dates and …
