Significant Aspects Of The Diet Of Ten Negro Nursing And Prospective Mothers In Hempstead, Texas, Ollie Mayes Singleton

All Theses

The mortality rate of mothers is of course a small percentage of the casualities that attend the efforts to renew our population in the face of a diminishing birth rate. In the United States 73,735 babies were born dead and another 70,000 died in the first year of life.

More than half of these deaths were caused by diseases or conditions that might have been prevented by proper prenatal diet, exercise and cleanliness.

As a student of nutrition and foods the writer's interest is mainly with the first means of prevention, i.e., the diet. In order that the reader may …

The Natural Right To A Living Wage And The Ethical Means Of Acquiring It, Edward Stanley Bullock Jun 1938

The Natural Right To A Living Wage And The Ethical Means Of Acquiring It, Edward Stanley Bullock

Bachelors’ Theses

Too much attention and research cannot be given to so vital a question as Unionism and Strikes. The newspapers are filled daily with new outbreaks in labor and controversies between employer and employee. Employees are continually striving to better their living conditions by asking for a living wage, while employers are striving to cut down expenses by trying to pay only a minimum wage. This wage is arrived at through bargaining between the employer and employees without any consideration for the vital factors that enter in when calculating an honest and living wage.

An Ecological Study Of Ashland Park Community, Angeline Rose Tauchen Jan 1938

An Ecological Study Of Ashland Park Community, Angeline Rose Tauchen

Student Work

The purpose of an ecological study of a community is to bring out various phases of social life as they really exist, with reference to their interdependence upon environmental forces. Few comprehensive studies of the human community from the ecological viewpoint have been made; the field is practically unsurveyed. Human ecology shows a striking similarity to plant ecology in the effect of definite external processes upon life. Because of the bearing of many ecological factors upon the social life of Ashland Park Community, the district offers innumerable opportunities for research in this phase of sociology.

The Effect Of European Festivals On American Entertainment, Florence Veall

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The selection of the subject "The effect of European Festivals on American Entertainment" was prompted by an assignment in a College of the Pacific Summer School course, "Supervision in the Elementary School."

The project was the planning of a patrictic program in an immigrant community. Each nationality represented in the class was to provide a national impression of the homeland of his ancestors, by means of costume, song, and dance typical of the country. After an hour of very interesting entertainment which gave an introduction to the background of the foreign members of the class, all lustily sang "America," led …
