The Relationship Between The Mbti And A Values Conflict Resolution, Marti B. George

Master's Theses

This study investigated the relationship between Jungian type personality dimensions and an intrapersonal values conflict resolution. Seventy subjects filled out the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which assesses the sixteen Jungian personality types. Subjects returned in approximately two weeks to complete the Values Conflict Resolution Assessment (VCRA) which assesses the degree of their resolution about a particular values conflict. It was hypothesized that the thinking-feeling function of mind would positively correlate with scores on the Ethical-Emotional subscale and negatively correlate with scores on the Rational-Behavioral subscale of the VCRA. The result did not confirm our hypotheses. Reliablilty and a principal components …

A Study Of The United States Army Security Assistance Training Program, Albert Ferris Leftwich

Master's Theses

Since the beginnings of the Cold War, the United States has provided arms and training to selected allied or friendly nations. Through the Security Assistance Training Program (SATP), over 500,000 foreign military personnel from 123 countries have been trained by the U.S. military services. Despite its relative low cost and low profile, the SATP has been a significant tool of U.S. foreign Policy by establishing communication and influence with elites, particularly of Third World nations. The Department of Defense and the Department of the Army have established a large, worldwide organization to manage the SATP. These agencies are generally well …

Vitello-Lipid And Vitello-Protein Deposition In Environmentally Stressed And Non-Stressed Populations Of Morone Saxatilis (Striped Bass), David Van Grimes

Master's Theses

Summer somatic indices of three and four year old striped bass (Morone saxatilis) from Lake Anna (LA), Virginia, a cooling water reservoir, indicated prey ingestion was not sufficient to maintain growth during summer months when striped bass metabolism was elevated by thermal and hypoxic stress. Vitello-lipid and vitello-protein concentrations of stressed LA striped bass were compared to those of non-stressed striped bass from Smith Mountain Lake (SML) , Virginia, a hydroelectric reservoir. Seasonal comparisons of LA and SML striped bass vitello-lipid concentrations and vitello-protein concentrations showed no significant differences between sites (P [less than or equal to] 0.05). Vitello nutrients …

Wrva's Public Service Broadcasting From 1925 Through World War Ii, Mary Julianne Roman-Daffron

Master's Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze WRVA's public service broadcasting from 1925 through 1945. The four criteria used in making selections from archival material at the University of Virginia and from other sources include: historical significance, importance of authorship, relationship to World War II, and broad topical significance emphasizing WRVA's public service broadcasting.

WRVA's public service broadcasting is defined as unsponored programming. Often produced at WRVA's expense, it readily separates into six subject areas: political and legislative, community service, religious, educational, agricultural, and war-related programming, and three program classifications: public service announcements, special one-time programs, and regular ongoing …

Resource Allocation As A Function Of Leadership Titles And Myers-Briggs Typology, David C. Leonard Jul 1990

Resource Allocation As A Function Of Leadership Titles And Myers-Briggs Typology, David C. Leonard

Master's Theses

In recent years, research efforts have attempted to identify variables that may moderate leaders' decision making styles. Variables that have been identified include divisibility of the resource, social scripts, and type of resource being divided. This study attempted to replicate these findings and examine the influence of personality variables as defined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Scale. The influence of the thinking-judging and feeling-judging typologies are examined in light of a resource allocation task, as well as their relationship to Blake and Mouton's Managerial Grid of leadership styles. Results were generally nonsignificant. However, the thinking and feeling typologies were correlated …

Undoing Ideologies In Diachronic Studies Of English : Towards More Realistic Pictures Of Language Changes From Late Oe To Me, Seiki Ayano

Master's Theses

For over a century, the development of English, especially its two waves of foreign influence during the period between late OE to ME, has been a controversial area. This paper attempts to examine the two instances of foreign influence exerted upon English using several important notions taken from pidgin-creole and bilingual theories to provide more realistic pictures of the two language contact situations. The paper does not provide a clear-cut conclusion, but rather it undoes age-old binary models, e.g., pro-Germanic vs. pro-Romance, introduces new insights, and raises questions regarding sociolinguistic aspects of language contact and the transformation of English during …

Seasonal Fluctuations Of Thermophilic And Psychrophilic Bacteria In Westhampton Lake, Richmond, Virginia, Chukwukere Godwin Durunna

Master's Theses

This study was based on the hypothesis that the populations of thermophilic, mesophilic, and psychrophilic bacteria in Westhampton Lake vary seasonally and are related to prevailing temperatures. It may be inferred that the kinds of bacteria present at a given season are those most directly involved in decomposition and recycling activities in the lake. Water samples were collected biweekly from September of 1986 through mid- August 1987 at three stations in Westhampton Lake. At each station, sample depths ranged from near the surface to near the bottom. Serial dilutions were plated in duplicate on nutrient agar and were incubated at …

London On The Eve Of War 1642, Daniel Roberts

Master's Theses

At the beginning of his reign the City of London was well-disposed toward King Charles I. Yet, in early January 1642, he felt compelled to flee the environs of the capital. This essay seeks to describe the cause of alienation between King and capital, concluding that Charles' policies so abused the City and its leaders that their natural royalist predisposition was shattered and London became the engine of Parliament's victory in the Civil War. Chapter One describes the physical appearance of the City of London at the time. The second chapter is a demographic survey portraying the city fathers' as …

A Land Development Financial Model, Bruce Saunders Mar 1990

A Land Development Financial Model, Bruce Saunders

Master's Theses

Often the term "real estate industry" is casually used as if sufficient in accurately describing a well defined segment contributing to the GNP. In actuality, real estate is a very large complex industry, involving a variety of corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individuals with different functions and objectives. A comprehensive profile of the industry would include investors, lenders, and government regulators. These players may be involved with a vast array of projects such as undeveloped land, single family and multifamily housing, office building, shopping centers, industrial buildings, hotels and motels, mobile home parks, resorts or recreational complexes. This variety illustrates the …
