This paper's objective is to document the research and developmental processes of creating East Tennessee State University's Spring Dance Concert 2012 costume designs and renderings. This thesis describes design creation from research stage to idea formulation to the conception of costumes using inspirational images, illustrations, and performance photos and videos. The show was a challenging undertaking because it involved the collaboration of many in a compressed timeframe: 1 artistic director, 9 choreographers, 20 dances, 46 performers, 10 lighting designers, 1 costume designer, and 3 weeks to put it all together. Athletic cleated shoe failures are commonplace to competitive-level ultimate frisbee players. Currently, there are no athletic cleated shoes designed for the sport of ultimate frisbee; players generally choose between football or soccer cleated shoes in the hopes of finding a match between footwear designs for a different sport and the needs of their own sport. A focus group and subsequent survey were conducted and administered, respectively, to better understand the types of failures that occur, as well as the causes of these failures. The theory of effectuation is ascending in entrepreneurship education. Hundreds of articles have been written on the topic. Many textbooks mention the theory, and one college level textbook teaches entrepreneurship entirely from an effectual perspective. Given its acceptance, the natural assumption is that effectuation is somehow 'good.' That is, there is some unique benefit that an entrepreneur gains from using effectuation. This dissertation examines the concept of effectuation, and its value to entrepreneurship. It seeks to determine if entrepreneurs who use effectual logic outperform entrepreneurs who don't. The number of females in senior level leadership positions in higher education is substantially fewer than males. Yet female students in these same institutions represent over half the population (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2010). The leadership gender gap is a phenomenon that has undergone numerous studies in search of reasons and solutions. Yet the gap remains. This thesis examines my work on the role of Man in the University of Louisville's 2011 production of Will Eno's The Flu Season directed by James Tompkins. It is composed of three primary chapters: rehearsal process, character development, and performance. The rehearsal chapter compares and contrasts my experiences working with Dr. Amy Steiger on Charles Mee's A Perfect Wedding and Professor James Tompkins on The Flu Season, highlighting the value of both collaborative and individual aspects in rehearsal. The Mill is an original film and music performance piece chronicling the history of the steel industry in the United States, with specific connections to Pittsburgh. In addition to scoring the project, I designed the sound and produced the film and music and also shot and edited the film. About eighty percent of the film material is historical footage (in black and white, as well as color), while I shot the remaining portions, on location, in various areas of the "Mon Valley" region of Pittsburgh. My dissertation examines how exploitation and exploration capabilities impact organizational performance for competitive advantage. The first essay reviews previous empirical, simulation, and theoretical studies to provide a synopsis and quantitative assessment of previous empirical research. The organizational performance implications of both exploration, exploitation, and their interaction (i.e., an ambidexterity) are evaluated through the substantiation of previous findings. Exploration and exploitation focus are discrete options that require a cognitive choice and are constrained by firm resources. The results show exploitation as having the greater relative impact on performance folloby exploration and ambidexterity. Essay two conceptualizes marketing capabilities as exploitation and exploration. …

The Relationship Between The Congruency In Perceptions Of Coach Leadership Behaviours And Perceptions Of Cohesion And Performance, Anthony G. Vander Laan

The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between perceptual congruency of coaching leadership and perceptions of cohesion and performance. Sixty coaches and 199 athletes responded to two leadership inventories: the Differentiated Transformational Leadership Inventory (DTLI; Callow et al., 2009) measuring transformational leadership and the Leadership Scale for Sports (LSS; Chelladurai &Saleh, 1980) measuring transactional leadership. Additionally, athletes indicated perceptions of cohesion by completing the Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ; Carron et al., 1985) and perceptions of personal performance through a self-report performance measure (Spalding, 2010).
