Smart Dispensers To Optimize Restocking Process, Kenneth M. Schow
Smart Dispensers To Optimize Restocking Process, Kenneth M. Schow
Defensive Publications Series
Many businesses need to efficiently restock paper towels in company bathroom facilities. This disclosure describes a smart paper towel dispenser which includes a built-in scale to detect the weight of the paper towel roll and a WiFi/GPS enabled microcontroller. The rate at which paper towels are dispensed and the device location is obtained to assess the number of towels remaining, the number of towels dispensed, and to determine when the paper towel stock is low and needs to be replaced. An alert is provided to the responsible personnel to replace the paper towels. The data can also be used to …

Copyright © 2019 American Chemical Society. A nanoprecipitation procedure was utilized to prepare novel diketopyrrolopyrrole-based semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) with hyaluronic acid (HA) and polysorbate 80. The nanoprecipitation led to the formation of spherical nanoparticles with average diameters ranging from 100 to 200 nm, and a careful control over the structure of the parent conjugated polymers was performed to probe the influence of π-conjugation on the final photophysical and thermal stability of the resulting SPNs. Upon generation of a series of novel SPNs, the optical and photophysical properties of the new nanomaterials were probed in solution using various techniques including …
Information Theoretic Measures For Quantifying Sequence-Ensemble Relationships Of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins, Megan C Cohan, Kiersten M Ruff, Rohit V Pappu
Information Theoretic Measures For Quantifying Sequence-Ensemble Relationships Of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins, Megan C Cohan, Kiersten M Ruff, Rohit V Pappu
2010-2019 OA Pubs
Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) contribute to a multitude of functions. De novo design of IDPs should open the door to modulating functions and phenotypes controlled by these systems. Recent design efforts have focused on compositional biases and specific sequence patterns as the design features. Analysis of the impact of these designs on sequence-function relationships indicates that individual sequence/compositional parameters are insufficient for describing sequence-function relationships in IDPs. To remedy this problem, we have developed information theoretic measures for sequence-ensemble relationships (SERs) of IDPs. These measures rely on prior availability of statistically robust conformational ensembles derived from all atom simulations. We …

Professional Development For Clerkship Administrators: A 16-Year Overview Of The Clerkship Administrator Certificate Program, Donnita Pelser, Cathy Chavez, Lindsey Allison, Virginia Cleppe, Gary L Beck Dallaghan
Medical Education Faculty Publications
Background: Increasing accreditation requirements as well as transformations in medical school curricula necessitate administrative staff who are not only invested in the clerkship coordinator role but also view what they do as a career. To date, there has been a lack of professional development opportunities for clerkship administrators.
Methods: In 2003, the Central Group on Educational Affairs of the Association of American Medical Colleges recognized a need for professional development for clerkship administrators. The Clerkship Administrator Certificate Program emerged from that decision and presented for the first time in 2004 in Omaha, Nebraska. This article provides an overview of the …
Fiber-Optic Temperature And Flow Sensory System And Methods, Ming Han, Guigen Liu, Weilin Hou, Qiwen Shen
Fiber-Optic Temperature And Flow Sensory System And Methods, Ming Han, Guigen Liu, Weilin Hou, Qiwen Shen
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Publications
A fiber optic sensor, a process for utilizing a fiber optic sensor, and a process for fabricating a fiber optic sensor are described, where a double-side-polished silicon pillar is attacked to an optical fiber tip and forms, a Fabry-Perot cavity. In an implementation, a fiber optic sensor in accordance with an examplary embodiment includes an optical fiber configured to be coupled to a light source and a spectrometer; and a single silicon layer or multiple silicon layers disposed on an end face of the optical fiber, where each of the silicon layer(s) defines a Fabry-Perot interferometer, and where the sensor …
Comparative Metabolite Profiling Of Four Citrus Peel Cultivars Via Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled With Quadrupole-Time-Of-Flight-Mass Spectrometry And Multivariate Data Analyses, Mohamed Ali Farag
Faculty Journal Articles
Citrus plants are one of the most economical fruit bearing trees grown worldwide for their medicinal use as well as for the flavor and food industry. This study attempts to characterize the metabolome difference in polyphenols of four Citrus species fruit peels; C. reticulata Blanco cv. Egyptian, C. sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Olinda Valencia, C. aurantiifolia Swingle cv. Mexican and C. paradisi Macfad. cv. Duncan via ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry platform. A total of 163 metabolites were characterized of which 28 were detected for the first time in Citrus cultivars including eight coumarin derivatives, three cinnamic acids …
Facile Microwave-Assisted Synthetic Approach To Palladium Nanoparticles Supported On Copper Oxide As An Efficient Catalyst For Heck And Sonogashira Cross- Coupling Reactions, Tamer Tawhid El-Idreesy
Facile Microwave-Assisted Synthetic Approach To Palladium Nanoparticles Supported On Copper Oxide As An Efficient Catalyst For Heck And Sonogashira Cross- Coupling Reactions, Tamer Tawhid El-Idreesy
Faculty Journal Articles
A simple green one-step method for the synthesis of highly active palladium nanoparticles embedded on copper oxide as an efficient catalyst for ligand-free Heck and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions has been developed. The synthetic approach is based on Microwave (MW)-assisted simultaneous chemical reduction of an aqueous solution of palladium and copper salts using hydrazine hydrate as the reducing agent. Selected characterization of the catalyst with transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) reveal a size range of 25±2nm for the generated catalyst nanoparticles with the highest catalytic activity. The use of the generated Pd/CuO nanoparticles …
Survivors’ Hardships Following The Atomic Bombing Of Nagasaki, Meghan Keenan
Survivors’ Hardships Following The Atomic Bombing Of Nagasaki, Meghan Keenan
History: Student Scholarship & Creative Work
Initially, those who survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and its immediate aftermath were considered fortunate. This assumption was soon disproved, as the survivors suffered from various environmental, health, socio-economic, and cultural hardships as result of the bomb.
