National Plan Of Rural Electrification (Pner) 2011-2020, Ministerio De Energía Y Minas

Latin American Energy Dialogue, White Papers and Reports

This Plan seeks to supply electricity to towns in rural areas of Peru as means to contribute to their socio-economic development, mitigate poverty, improve their quality of life and deter the migration from the country to the cities. The document outlines ways in which this would be achieved through the formulation of studies that allow the development of renewable energy (hydraulic, solar and wind) and the updating of the designs of the rural electric systems; as well as giving priority to projects based on the use of renewable energy sources; and the formulation of the Renewable Energy Master Plan.

Pemex Cries Poverty, Analysts Beg To Differ, David Agren

NotiEn: An Analytical Digest About Energy Issues in Latin America

When Finance Secretary Ernesto Cordero delivered his 2011 budget to Congress in early September, complaints surfaced almost immediately in the state oil company PEMEX about the size of next years proposed US$20.4 billion allocation--some 30% less than requested. The concerns once again highlighted perpetual challenges in PEMEX's finances as the federal government relies on oil revenue to fund roughly one-third of its budget, which insiders say puts the company at risk of losing money and going into debt and not carrying out new projects to stem a decline in its petroleum reserves. The concerns also highlighted the challenges PEMEX faces as …

A Molecular Dynamics Study On The Transport Of A Charged Biomolecule In A Polymeric Adsorbent Medium And Its Adsorption Onto A Charged Ligand, Enrico Riccardi, Jee-Ching Wang, Athanasios I. Liapis Aug 2010

A Molecular Dynamics Study On The Transport Of A Charged Biomolecule In A Polymeric Adsorbent Medium And Its Adsorption Onto A Charged Ligand, Enrico Riccardi, Jee-Ching Wang, Athanasios I. Liapis

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The transport of a charged adsorbate biomolecule in a porous polymeric adsorbent medium and its adsorption onto the covalently immobilized ligands have been modeled and investigated using molecular dynamics modeling and simulations as the third part of a novel fundamental methodology developed for studying ion-exchange chromatography based bioseparations. To overcome computational challenges, a novel simulation approach is devised where appropriate atomistic and coarse grain models are employed simultaneously and the transport of the adsorbate is characterized through a number of locations representative of the progress of the transport process. The adsorbate biomolecule for the system studied in this work changes …

Treatment Of Displaced Indigenous Populations In Two Large Hydro Projects In Panama, Mary Finley-Brook, Curtis Thomas Jun 2010

Treatment Of Displaced Indigenous Populations In Two Large Hydro Projects In Panama, Mary Finley-Brook, Curtis Thomas

Geography and the Environment Faculty Publications

The World Commission on Dams provided an analytical overview of the cumulative effects of years of dam development. A lack of commitment or capacity to cope with displacement or to consider the civil rights of, or risks to, displaced people led to the impoverishment and suffering of tens of millions and growing opposition to dams by affected communities worldwide. However, after the WCD, little has changed for the better in terms of resettlement policies. In fact, the standards of key agencies, like the Asian Development Bank, have been lowered and diluted compared to prior policies. Dam-induced development and displacement are …
