Digital collections exist at all types of institutions throughout the Northwest. Wrangling these online resources all into one place is quite a challenge. This poster will raise awareness and highlight digital collections both big and small throughout the region. The range of collections spans from historical documents detailing local histories to the digital repositories of official government business to photographs and to objects documenting Northwest culture (music, art, and environment). Recently the Boise State University English Department and Albertsons Library collaborated on digitizing a collection of out-of-print editions of the Western Writers Series. Boise State publishes the Western Writers Series which consists of 50-60 page booklets of authoritative introductions to writers and classic texts that relate to literature of the American West. This poster will showcase the collaboration and motivation that went into the Western Writers Series Digital Editions. Narrative Convergence, Cross-Sited Productions And The Archival Dilemma, Marc Ruppel

This article addresses the speculative role of digital preservation from the standpoint of convergent literatures. `Cross-sited narratives', multimodal stories told across media channels, are introduced here as a specific mode of narrative instrumentality. It is argued that contemporary models of the archive structured on organizational models such as genetic criticism and on preservational models such as emulation and migration are not equipped to handle cross-sited works, as they are premised on mono-media sensibilities. Primarily exploring Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves (2000) and Neil Young's Greendale (2003), two works that resist digitization both materially and thematically, the claim is made that …

Within the archival community, the concept of personal archives has evolved from that of the private papers of well-known and/or powerful individuals (literary manuscripts, private diaries of administrators, etc.) to incorporate the daily recordkeeping and memory practices of potentially all individuals, regardless of their status. With the advent of digital technologies, the ability to create and share evidence of self, family, and community has grown in the public consciousness. Richard Cox’s new book Personal Archives and a New Archival Calling is an appeal to archivists to tap into this increased awareness and to develop a “new partnership” with the public.
