Top Ten Geological Reason To Use The Library, Maxine G. Schmidt

Maxine G Schmidt

Geoscience researchers rely heavily on electronic resources. Unfortunately, they tend to access these resources through Google, or, sometimes, Google Scholar. The Library has provided resources which cannot be found or cannot be accessed using Google.

Alls Survey Update : Initial Messages Regarding Numeracy, Dave Tout

David (Dave) Tout

In the initial analysis and results coming out from the first wave of the 2003 Adult Literacy and Lifeskills Survey (ALLS) countries, the data seem to be indicating that numeracy plays a more important role in economic returns for individuals than do prose or document literacy, and seem to confirm that men outperform women in the area of numeracy and mathematics. Some of the outcomes stemming from the results that will be of interest when the Australian results are released late in 2007 include: the overlap between respondents' abilities in literacy and numeracy was lower than expected; early school leavers …

A Woman's Work Is Never Done? Fundraising Perception And Effort Among Female State Legislative Candidates, Shannon Jenkins Jun 2007

A Woman's Work Is Never Done? Fundraising Perception And Effort Among Female State Legislative Candidates, Shannon Jenkins

Shannon Jenkins

The lack of female politicians has been attributed to a lack of female candidates for office. However, the reason why there are so few female candidates is not clear. The author examines whether differences in fund-raising perceptions and effort between female and male state legislative candidates contribute to the lack of female candidates. The results indicate that women do tend to be more concerned about fund-raising, as is evidenced by greater effort devoted to this campaign function as compared to their male counterparts. Women use more techniques and rely on more sources to secure funds for their campaigns. This suggests …

Charles G. Eberly

This paper described a survey of fraternity members' satisfaction with their experiences in a Residential Learning Community within Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. RLCs include a faculty member who has an office within the chapter facility, who teaches a course for credit within the chapter, and who supervises educational programming within the chapter. Chapters who attain RLC status must apply for re-accreditation as an RLC on a periodic basis.

Collaborative Strategies To Meet The Challenges Of Serving Graduate Students, Michele D. Behr, Barbara J. Cockrell Mar 2007

Collaborative Strategies To Meet The Challenges Of Serving Graduate Students, Michele D. Behr, Barbara J. Cockrell

Barbara J Cockrell

Recent LibQual+ (2004) and Off-campus Satisfaction (2002, 2006) surveys at Western Michigan University revealed that graduate students had information needs that were not being met. Many lack awareness of resources and the necessary research skills for performing graduate level research, yet instructors are reluctant to relinquish class time for library sessions and the students themselves are reluctant to seek the individual help they need. In 2005-6 we collaborated with the Graduate College to offer new graduate workshops that were not class related but were instead part of a Strategies for Success series that was already in place. These workshop topics …

American Grand Lodge Proceedings, Paul J. Rich

Paul J. Rich

This presentation at the international conference on Freemasonry hosted by the Grand Lodge of Scotland in Edinburgh was later reproduced by the Library of the United Grand Lodge of England. It calls attention to the most dull looking but actually valuable resources for secret society scholarship.
