The University of the Pacific started an institutional repository, Scholarly Commons, at the end of 2016. Prior to this, theses/dissertations (T/Ds) had been submitted to ProQuest starting in 1960 and prior to that the University collected print copies in the Library starting in 1912. The print collection of T/Ds at Pacific was 3,188 in December 2016.

The goals starting in 2017 were as follows

1. Duplicate all current ProQuest ETDs in to the IR with restricted access
2. Set up the ProQuest submission form moving forwards to gain permission from students to upload to the IR
3. Digitize all print copies in …

Collaborative learning environments can utilize Web 2.0 tools for the purpose of teaching information literacy (IL) and information and communication technology (ICT) to college students. The California Maritime Academy (CMA) Library administered IL course is used in this paper to present a Web 2.0-based lesson unit. The authors designed a plan after conducting a demographic and stakeholder analysis of CMA and adhered to standards set forth by the ACRL as well as IL/ICT competency levels. Due to the completion of a brand-new library building at the United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi, Kenya, opportunities for collection development at the library have appeared. This paper outlines three strategies for taking advantage of the special collections holdings and developing them over time. The authors provide research on creating an Africana collection, a United Nations (U.N.) Depository, and a UNESCO Memory of the World Program digital archive. This paper investigates the role libraries play in American juvenile detention centers. An overview of facilities and services nation-wide is followed by survey results from three specific institutions: King County Youth Service Center in Washington, Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall in California, and Pima County Juvenile Detention Center in Arizona. The surveys were administered to minors at all three centers and faculty and probation staff at two. Brunsman Family Slide Collection: An Investigation Into The Development, Preservation, And Digitization Of Slide Collections, Michele Gibney

This paper presents a review of slide history, their preservation, and digitization. The author completes a small-scale digitization project on 609 family slides featuring images from the 1940’s to 1960’s. Relevant literature is analyzed that provides information on the preservation of images and the digitization of historical materials. This paper will examine some of the global theoretical approaches in providing multicultural services to youths as well as some first-hand examples experienced in the United States by the author. In an international context the field of youth services generates significant attention due to the importance of raising the education levels of adolescents. The three theoretical models under review are urbanization, cultural planning, and social inclusion.
