Gis Application For Evaluation Of Trade And Services Area Development In Serang City, Banten Province, Adam Hastara Aji, Nurina Rachmita, Nurwita Mustika Sari, Benedictus Kushardian

Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)

Trade and service area is an area that facilitates trade transactions and services between people in need (demand side) and people who sell services (supply-side). In determining trade areas and services, SMCE or Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation or spatial evaluation techniques consider many different criteria when making decisions. The method used in this paper is SMCE with Weight Overlay technique using four variables, namely roads, slopes, settlements and rivers. Weighting carried out in the analysis was made with various simulations, namely Simulation A with the same weight weighting on each variable 25%, simulation B with dominant weighting on one of the …

Don't Forget About Geography, Micah L. Brachman

Journal of Spatial Information Science

Maps are a fundamental form of human communication, and for millennia geographers have created maps that measure and describe features and phenomena on the Earth's surface. Yet since the "quantitative revolution" of the 1960s, the ancient scientific discipline of geography has become increasingly devalued within the academe and misunderstood by the general public. A review of the academic affiliations and job titles of the esteemed authors from the JOSIS 10th anniversary edition is indicative of how constant rebranding and renaming of geography has resulted in fragmentation of the discipline. While terms such as "Spatial Data Science‚" have a cross-disciplinary appeal, …

Indigeneity And Spatial Information Science, Matt Duckham, Serene Ho

Journal of Spatial Information Science

Spatial information science has given rise to a set of concepts, tools, and techniques for understanding our geographic world. In turn, the technologies built on this body of knowledge embed certain ways of knowing." This vision paper traces the roots and impacts of those embeddings and explores how they can sometimes be inherently at odds with or completely subvert Indigenous Peoples' ways of knowing. However advancements in spatial information science offer opportunities for innovation whilst working towards reconciliation. We highlight as examples four active research topics in the field to support a call to action for greater inclusion of Indigenous …

Evaluation Of Spatio-Temporal Land Use And Land Cover Dynamics Using Geospatial Technologies: The Case Of Majang Zone, Ethiopia, Girma Alemu Melka, Muluneh Woldetsadik Abshare

International Journal of Geospatial and Environmental Research

The dynamics of land use-land cover changes is one of the phenomena which interweave the socio-economic, political, and environmental issues in Ethiopia. This study investigated the land use-land cover (LULC) changes in the Majang Zone of Gambela Region, Ethiopia over a period of 33 years from 1985 to 2018. Four sets of Landsat imageries (i.e.,1985, 1996, 2007, and 2018) were the input data from which LULC maps were produced and analyzed using remote sensing and GIS applications. Concurrently, key informants’ interviews, focus group discussions, and questionnaires were used to identify and describe the drivers of LULC changes. The LULC change …
