Zooplanktons are important fish and waterfowl food. Limnological studies of Marala Wetlands, a complex created by three rivers, i.e., Jammu Tawi, Chenab and Manawar Tawi, entering Bajwat area located 25 km from North of Sialkot city from state of Jammu and Kashmir, were carried out between October, 2000 to September 2001. This survey was carried out to create a checklist of zooplanktons existing in the study site which would help in future studies relating to aquatic biodiversity and ecological studies of wetlands. In this study, we have tried to study the movement of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) over Africa in April by analyzing Temperature, (U, V) Wind and rainfall, studying oscillation of the ITCZ and its relationship with temperature in the different seasons, within the range of Africa in a long period of time (statistical period of 60 years). An understanding of how past conditions have shaped present-day ecological patterns and trends is critical to science-based conservation management. Unfortunately, the records, specimens, and objects historical ecologists need to help generate that understanding are often lacking. And because of a general underinvestment by society in systematic collection and museum curation, future historical ecologists may be similarly limited in their ability to investigate conditions regarding our present day. Given the importance of historical data and materials in contemporary conservation decision-making, we suggest it is incumbent upon resource managers and scientists to ask whether additional research efforts are needed to document past …

Historical ecological research provides valuable insights for contemporary conservation management. Gaps in historical records, however, can limit the utility of that research. Future conservationists may therefore find themselves disadvantaged by the current societal trend of underinvestment in systematic collection of museum specimens and natural history information. Capture-recapture methods are commonly used to estimate abundance and density of wild animal populations. Although a variety of sophisticated analytical techniques are available to evaluate capture-recapture data, vertebrate monitoring programs often lack the resources (e.g., time, personnel, and/or analytical expertise) to apply these methods. As an alternative, simple population indices, such as counts of unique individuals, may provide sufficient information to detect meaningful changes in population size. Crimes against homosexuals are mostly hate crimes, and should be referred to as homophobic crimes. Objective: To investigate the occurrence of head and face injuries in victims of homophobic crimes. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the Specialized Police for Homophobic Crimes. Data were collected from the 56 police and medical reports corresponding to reported cases of homicide against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and transgender (LGBT, or sexual minority) in the period from May 2009 to July 2013. Evidence suggests that health care in the United States could benefit from including the services of Community Health Workers (CHW), provided through Community Health Houses, in the delivery of care. This research project evaluated the impact of three newly-established Health Houses and the services provided to patients by Community Health Workers at three locations in the Mississippi Delta. The patients were current enrollees in the Medicare administered by United Healthcare. The program began in February 2014 and continued through September 2015. The pharmaceutical and medical device industries aggressively market their wares to health care professionals, and the giving of gifts has become a central feature of this process. Most observers regard financial incentives tied to the use of specific therapeutic products as ethically impermissible, and various institutions have tried combating inappropriate gifts and payments to physicians: medical and industry groups adopted voluntary codes, federal agencies published advisory guidelines, and, most recently, state and federal legislatures enacted reporting laws. Freshwater gastropods comprise a diverse and highly imperiled taxonomic group that is threatened by anthropogenic factors including the introduction of nonnative species. We surveyed 10 wetland ponds in Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge to assess the possible expansion of the nonnative European ear snail (Radix auricularia) and to determine the genus richness and relative abundance of native gastropods. D-frame dip nets were used to sample gastropods at 4 locations in each pond. Six genera of gastropods were found, including R. auricularia in 6 ponds where it was not previously known. Bulletin of National University of Uzbekistan: Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Paper is devoted to the ecological and faunistic analysis of the collembolans unit of the Northeast region of Uzbekistan. In the agrocenoses of apple orchard, wheat and surrounding ecosystems, 40 species of collembolans have been identified. Of these, 29 species were found in agrocenoses (apple orchard and wheat), and 40 (in natural communities). We observed the same pattern in a huge population density in the cenoses studied. It is significantly more in natural communities (12386 copies per 1 m2 of soil) as compared with agrocenoses (6980 copies per 1 m2 of soil). The horizons of the surface layer …

Estimation Of Zero-Inflated Population Mean: A Bootstrapping Approach, Khyam Paneru, R. Noah Padgett, Hanfeng Chen
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
A mixture model was adopted from the maximum pseudo-likelihood approach under complex sampling designs to estimate the mean of zero-inflated population. To overcome the complexity and assumptions of asymptotic distribution, the maximum pseudo-likelihood function was used, but a bootstrapping procedure was proposed as an alternative. Bootstrap confidence intervals consistently capture the true means of zero-inflated populations of the simulation studies.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: An Evidence-Based Case Report Treated With Homoeopathy, Abhijit Chakma, Ratan Shil, Madhu Ghosh

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is commonly seen in men above the age of 50 years and its incidence approaches 75-80% in men above 80 years. It is one of the frequent reasons for elderly men undergoing surgery. BPH symptoms range from least voiding difficulties to urinary retention and renal failure. In this case, treated with Causticum, both subjective symptoms and prostate size were assessed post treatment. This case shows the usefulness of this medicine on subjective and pathological parameters.

Studies on the relative abundance and population fluctuations of insects occurring in the agricultural experiments and research Station of the King Saud University at Dierab, South Riyadh, were carried out from September, 2009 to December, 2010 using: Hand Picking, Malaise Traps, Pitfall Traps and Sticky Traps methods. The survey revealed the presence of one hundred sixty-two species belonging to one hundred twenty-eight genera, of sixty-two families under nine orders, (Coleoptera, Dermaptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Mantodea Neuroptera and Orthoptera). Scleractinian corals consider one of the most important reef builders in tropical and subtropical regions around the world including Red Sea. This study aimed to estimate the linear growth rates and skeletal densities for the most dominant coral species, Acropora humilis and Stylophora pistillata at the Suez Gulf and northern Red Sea during the period from summer 2015 to spring 2016. The present results showed that, A. humilis has an annual growth rate averaged 6.08±0.551 mm/y, and was low compared with S. pistillata which averaged7.37±3.488 mm/y. Insufficient infrastructure is one of the challenges facing investigators in the field of clinical research. At the University of Louisville (UofL) Division of Infectious Diseases, we developed a multidisciplinary coordinating center with the aim to support investigators in all aspects of the clinical research process. The objective of this article is to describe the composition and the role of the different units of the UofL Clinical Research Coordinating Center. The different components of the Center can serve as a template for institutions interested in developing a clinical research support infrastructure.

Egypt has a total of 35 natural reserves which are usually listed in accordance with the criteria defined all over the world. These cover more than 97000 square kilometers, which represents 9.7 % of total land area. Prime Minister's decree no. 1969 of 1998 declared the 144 islands of the River Nile as reserves. 30 of these islands are located in Rosetta branch and 19 in Damietta branch, as wetlands, with an area of 160 km². Studies of rabbits and hares often use fecal pellet counts to estimate population density, create indices of abundance, and monitor habitat use, because fecal pellet counts are more easily deployed and less labor intensive than visual surveys and live trapping. In some habitats, plot size and shape can affect the measured pellet density and the resulting estimates of habitat use by rabbits. Using scanning electron microscopy, epizooic diatoms were observed growing on the cerci of Caenis amica Hagen naiads (Ephemeroptera, Caenidae). Meridion circulare (Greville) C. Agardh was the most abundant, followed by Synedra rumpens Kützing, then Cocconeis pediculus Ehrenberg. Other diatom species observed from substrates in Cedar Creek, Isabella County, Michigan were not observed on the cerci. No diatoms were observed on Ephemerellidae naiads.

Florida rosemary (Ceratiola ericoides), an ericaceous shrub with needlelike leaves, is characteristic of Florida scrubs and certain other xeric plant communities of well-drained sands. The plant is dioecious, its inconspicuous male and female flowers borne on separate individuals. From 2003 to 2012 (mainly 2007–2012), rosemary was sampled periodically (with all months included at least once during the period) in sand ridges of peninsular Florida and two riverine dunes in southeastern Georgia. Litter-inhabiting Collembola and mites were sampled using pitfall traps over a twelve-month period from four sub-communities within a 100-acre (40-ha) oak-woodland complex in northern Cook County, Illinois. Sampled locations included four areas where future ecological restoration was planned (mesic woodland, dry-mesic woodland, mesic upland forest, and buckthorn-dominated savanna) and a mesic woodland control that would not be restored. Fifty-eight mite and 30 Collembola taxa were identified out of 5,308 and 190,402 individuals trapped, respectively. Aphis echinaceae, n. sp. is described from specimens collected in Douglas County, Minnesota, on Echinacea angustifolia (DC.). The aphid is illustrated with biometric data for alate and apterous vivipara. Its short cauda and siphunculi, and presence of secondary sensoria on antennal segments III, IV, and V in both morphs makes this Aphis morphologically similar to A. debilicornis (Gillette and Palmer), A. lugentis Williams and A. caliginosa Hottes and Frison, and root feeding aphids of the subgenus Pseudoprotaphis Kadyrbekov and genus Protaphis Börner. A diagnosis is provided.
