This article aims to give a succinct review of notable criminal

law and procedure cases decided by the Supreme Court of Virginia

and the Court of Appeals of Virginia during the past year. Instead

of covering every ruling or rationale in these cases, the article

focuses on the "take-away" of the holdings with the most

precedential value. The article also summarizes noteworthy

changes to criminal law and procedure enacted by the 2017 Virginia

General Assembly.

Lower Body Stiffness Variations And Associated Injury Risk During Sports Specific Tasks, Emma Millett, Mark Moresi, Mark Watsford, Paul Taylor, David Greene

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the longitudinal stiffness changes and associated prospective lower limb injury risk across a season of training in female athletes. Thirty-nine high level female athletes from varied training backgrounds completed sports-specific tasks and repetitive hopping. Repeated measures analysis of variance, independent t-tests, receiver operating characteristics curves and logistic regression analysis were implemented to evaluate the identified aims of this study. Results suggest athletic training influences longitudinal changes in leg stiffness which may place athletes at increased injury risk. An optimal range of stiffness may exist allowing optimal performance and minimised injury risk.

This study analyzes the effect that an individual’s body mass index (BMI) has on their hourly compensation in their next job directly following attainment of their bachelor degree. This study uses the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth that started in 1997. This study aligned all the survey participants’ timeline of life events to be coordinated in such a way that bachelor degree attainment, regardless of year, is the common reference point. Grace Wambolt was the fifth female graduate of Dalhousie Law School and the second woman to practise law in Nova Scotia. She was one of the relatively few female lawyers in Canada (up to the influx of the nineteen-seventies) who practiced law following the push by the first female lawyers for the elimination of formal barriers to practice. This article describes the statutory recognition of the need for prevention/early intervention juvenile services in Florida that are both trauma-informed and gender-specific. It examines how childhood trauma can impact at-risk children and the gendered aspects of such trauma. The article then describes the PACE Center for Girls, a Florida-based school, currently undergoing a comprehensive evaluation, which attempts to incorporate elements that fulfill statutory recommendations into its programming.

Throughout history, women in positions of authority have often been perceived as violating well-established gender norms. Perhaps as a result, female leadership has often been viewed as a threat to male power and privilege and thus provoked resistance. Female leaders challenge longstanding sex stereotypes and patriarchal structures, subverting the identities of androcentric institutions and the people who comprise them.
