The purpose of our study was to determine the contribution of Şerefeddin Sabuncuoğlu's achievement to bring gynecology to the modern knowledge level. The gynecological tools in the achievement of Serefeddin Sabuncuoğlu, who is the late period representative of classical medical paradigm, are examined in connection with the achievement of Zahravi, which belongs to the classical medical literature. It was determined that in the long time interval from Zahravi to Sabuncuoğlu a limited advancement occurred in medical knowledge, and that the differences between the achievements of the 2 doctors are important for reflecting the development between the 2 periods.

A law prohibiting smoking in the enclosed areas of public and private workplaces was put into effect in Turkey on 19 May 2008. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of this law upon the smoking habits of the employees in this short period of 3 months. Materials and methods: This study was performed in Kayseri, in 3 public and 3 private workplaces, comprising 868 employees. A questionnaire was filled out, face-to-face, in the second week of August. To examine the effect of smoking on normal buccal mucosa cytomorphologically. Materials and methods: Forty individuals aged between 40 and 60, comprising 23 smokers (14 male, 9 female) and 17 and non-smokers (10 male, 7 female), were included in the study. The buccal epithelial cells of these individuals were collected with a brush and the cells were measured cytomorphometrically using software. There is no effective eradication regimen for Helicobacter pylori (HP) in Turkey. Recent studies have shown that sequential therapy may be superior to the standard triple therapy in terms of the eradication of HP. The normative data for the newborn clitoral length will enable physicians to avoid overdiagnosing or underdiagnosing disorders related to the condition. This study is the first to investigate clitoris length in newborn females in Turkey. Materials and methods: A total of 325 newborns with normal gestational age born by uncomplicated spontaneous vaginal delivery were included in the study. To evaluate AIDS knowledge and risky sexual behaviors of registered female sex workers during their obligatory periodic examination in the Department of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Hospital. To evaluate the reproductive outcome after hysteroscopic metroplasty in women with a septate uterus, with particular focus on patients suffering from unexplained infertility. Materials and methods: Hysteroscopic septum resection was performed on 181 patients with uterine septa, including 98 patients with infertility and 83 patients with secondary infertility. Patients were placed into 1 of 3 groups: those with unexplained infertility, those who had experienced 1 miscarriage, and those who had experienced 2 or more miscarriages. To investigate the effect of caffeine on the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) in the liver and heart tissues of rats. Materials and methods: The current study included 30 rats, which were divided into 3 groups: a control group and 2 caffeine-treated groups. Group 1 was given caffeine at 30 mg/kg and Group 2 was given caffeine at 100 mg/kg (a high nontoxic dose) for 14 days. Hypertensive response to treadmill exercise testing (TET) is an early marker of future development of hypertension. In this cross-sectional, case-control study we evaluated the relationship of hypertensive response to TET with aortic elastic properties, endothelial functions, and left ventricular functions. Blood concentration of propofol depends on many factors, such as age, gender, body weight, dose, infusion rate, and cardiac output. This study primarily investigated the effect of infusion rate on blood pressure changes. Secondarily induction time and induction dose were studied. To test the hypothesis that serum S100B levels could be useful in detecting neurological damage in infants with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). To compare acoustic analysis results obtained by 2 computer programs, Praat and the Multi-Dimensional Voice Program (MDVP). Different voice analysis programs use similar descriptions to define voice perturbation measures. Materials and methods: A total of 47 voice samples reflecting a spectrum of normal and pathological voices were randomly selected from a database, and the same voice samples were used to obtain mean fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, and noise-to-harmonics ratio results from 2 acoustic analysis programs. To investigate the prevalence of atopic syndrome and the associated risk factors among middle school students. Asthma, allergic rhinitis, and eczema have an extensive epidemiologic diversity in various geographic areas. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 1508 students in the city of Tabriz (a northwestern Turkish-populated region of Iran) in 2009. To perform an in vitro study of the effects of various scolicidal agents on scolices in both crystal-clear fluid and daughter cysts. After the first description of a CCHF outbreak in Turkey, tick bites became an increasing cause of visits to health-care facilities. In this study, we evaluated tick bites in a CCHF endemic region. Materials and methods: The study included cases of tick bites that were referred to 2 hospitals in Erzurum between June and October 2008.
