Potential Of Using Surfactants To Enhance Ammonium And Nitrate Adsorption On Rice Husk And Its Biochar, Lada Mathurasa, Seelawut Damrongsiri Jan 2017

Potential Of Using Surfactants To Enhance Ammonium And Nitrate Adsorption On Rice Husk And Its Biochar, Lada Mathurasa, Seelawut Damrongsiri

Applied Environmental Research

Inorganic nitrogen fertilizers are widely and heavily used in agriculture. Leaching of these fertilizers is a cause of eutrophication in water bodies. This study examines the use of rice husk and its biochar, their efficiency in adsorption of ammonium and nitrate and the potential of using surfactants, sodium dodecyl benzenesulfonate (SDBS) and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), to increase adsorption. Physical and chemical properties of adsorbents were examined through BET, SEM-EDX, and CEC value, respectively. The equilibrium batch adsorption was conducted. The result showed that rice husk was lower in surface area, total pore volume, pore diameter, silica and oxygen …

Perchloroetylene And Dibutyltin Dichloride Removal From Packed Column By Surfactant Solution, Seelawut Damrongsiri, Chantra Tongcumpou, David A. Sabatini May 2014

Perchloroetylene And Dibutyltin Dichloride Removal From Packed Column By Surfactant Solution, Seelawut Damrongsiri, Chantra Tongcumpou, David A. Sabatini

Applied Environmental Research

Surfactant enhanced remediation is viewed as a potential method for removing organometallic compounds from contaminated aquifers. Dibutyltin dichloride (DBT), as a representative organometallic compound, was applied in sand packed columns to observe its solubilization behavior compared to that of perchloroetylene (PCE), a normal organic solvent. Ottawa sand was used as the porous media. A mixture of DBT and PCE was applied as the contaminant. The tracer study exhibited the plug flow condition with a retention time of 79.9 min. The surfactant solution was a mixture of 3.6 wt% SDHS and 0.4 wt% C16DPDS with various concentrations of CaCl2.The column experiments …

Effects Of Ferrocene On The Solubilization Of Alkanes In A Microemulsion System, Saravanee Singtong, Chantra Tongcumpou, David A. Sabatini Jul 2011

Effects Of Ferrocene On The Solubilization Of Alkanes In A Microemulsion System, Saravanee Singtong, Chantra Tongcumpou, David A. Sabatini

Applied Environmental Research

Ferrocene is a metallic additive that has been used to boost the octane number of gasoline. Even though ferrocene is not an environmental contaminant of high concern, it can be found in soil contaminated with gasoline. Due to its organometallic nature, ferrocene may affect the phase behavior of other alkanes which has been contaminated to the environment and limit their removal using surfactant-enhanced aquifer remediation (SEAR). Therefore, the aim of this work was to investigate the effects of ferrocene on the solubilization capacity of alkanes in micellar surfactant solutions. The solubilization capacity and column study of alkanes with and without …
