OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a mobile health application (mHealth app) will result in a decrease in fatigue and an increase in adherence to energy conservation techniques for adults with multiple sclerosis (MS).
METHOD: Using a quantitative, exploratory, pretest and post-test design, we examined the use of the mHealth app, Pace My Day (PMD), by seven participants during one chosen task while incorporating energy conservation strategies for two weeks. Main outcome measures included Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS) and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM).
RESULTS: There was a significant decrease in the MFIS scores indicating …

Nexus Maximus
The goal of this machine is to decrease the wait time to see a physician or doctor when a refugee goes to a clinic. The machine will perform the first tests that a nurse would have to do before the patient meet the doctor. The machine allows this process to be quicker by doing tests, set up appointments for refugees to see a doctor, give the estimated wait time at clinics and also to direct people to the right section of the clinic once they get there.

Community of Scholars Day—Posters
With significant advancements in science and technology, along with increased focus on neuroplasticity, new ways to measure consciousness and changes in consciousness are emerging. Advanced neuroimaging technologies are being succeeded by more holistic methods of gathering data with the use of electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring. The implications are better tools for the scientific community to assess medical conditions and cognitive states as well as higher awareness and integration of consciousness into our everyday lives.

The Stem Dilemma: Skills That Matter To Regions, Fran Stewart
The Stem Dilemma: Skills That Matter To Regions, Fran Stewart
Upjohn Press
Fran Stewart dives into the murky waters where education and economic goals meet to confront several key issues facing policymakers and educators, including the role of public investment in human capital, the types of human capital investment that provide the greatest public return, and whether those investments should vary by region.
She shows that not all high-paying jobs require STEM skills; that not all good-paying, highly skilled STEM jobs require college degrees; and that "soft skills" are important for STEM as well as other high-paying jobs.

Patient-Oriented Smartphone Apps To Improve Health & Wellbeing, Geordie C. Lonza
Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
Patients have the ability to improve their health outcomes, but their capacity to do so is sometimes underutilized due to misunderstandings or ineffective engagement in their healthcare. Nearly everyone owns a smartphone today, and there are innumerable patient-oriented smartphone apps in both the Apple and Android app stores. However, the clinical utility of these apps has not been widely studied. It is possible that we can incorporate the use of technology such as smartphone apps into our recommendations to patients in order to improve their management of their chronic diseases and their abilities to make lifestyle modifications.
