A team of students from Gardner-Webb University recently tested their knowledge of world facts by competing in WorldQuest in Charlotte, N.C. The group of political science, global studies, history and biology majors were accompanied by Dr. Casey Delehanty, assistant professor of Global Studies. Sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, the event included approximately 600 students and community members from all around the greater Charlotte area.

It includes entries on Wisconsin’s first cardiac catheterization program and laser angioplasty, the first VAD (ventricular assist device) surgery, and many other of St Luke’s firsts in cardiac care.

An Introduction to Police Operations and Methods: The Connection to Law and History textbook provides an overview of the complex and evolving role of police in a modern democratic society. Police officers are expected to respond to the demands of competing constituencies and resolve complex societal and individual problems. The invocation of the formal criminal justice system and the use of force to accomplish lawful objectives is sometimes required. The following histories explore the boundaries between the human and natural environment on Hamilton College’s campus. They were written for the Environmental Studies course “Interpreting the American Environment” and incorporated site visits and consultations of the historical record in order to better understand familiar places on Hamilton’s campus. Through this research, the contributors identified the human imprint on natural places and located nature in the built environment.

Although Lindsay Frazier ’16 had dreamed of becoming a lawyer when she was younger, she began her studies at Gardner-Webb University as a secondary history education major. In her junior year, she took a class on the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. Joseph Moore. Researching and writing class assignments gave her confidence in her abilities, and she realized law school was a definite possibility.
