Implementating The Safety Of Life At Sea Convention In Trinidad And Tobago, David T. Daniel

World Maritime University Dissertations

Many developing countries a-ft.er ratifying or acceding to the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) Convention are not fully aware of all the obligations implied in being party to the Convention. A review of the developments in Maritime Safety after its inception would emphasize the need for full implementation of the codes established by the Convention. Shipping is an international business and developing countries should be actively involved in the formulation OT international maritime rules. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) was established by the United Nations (UN) to provide a forum for all countries to participate in formulating rules for …

Passenger Ship Stability And Fire Safety, Zaki Nabil Medjdoub

World Maritime University Dissertations

When I started writing my project about Chapter I, ll-I and 11-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, I was confused about what to mention and discuss in my thesis due to the extent and the difficulties of the chapters. Finally I confined myself to the provisions concerning surveys to which passenger ships are subject. The project describes the minimum knowledge which a surveyor should have in order to carry out the surveys specified in the international provisions and regulations. This paper is an attempt to produce a booklet for surveyors. I have to remind the reader that this work is …

Evolution Of Maritime Administration In India, K. A. Simon

World Maritime University Dissertations

Maritime Administration of any country has to exercise control over the Classification Societies operating in its jurisdiction in order to achieve the objectives of the Administration. Responsibility and authority of Maritime Safety Administration with respect to Classification Societies are generally not well understood by many in the shipping industry, especially in the developing maritime countries. The shipping interests ought to know the roles of these cardinal organisations distinctively. This is an attempt to study the Maritime Safety Administration and Classification Societies in India and their mutual relationships. The circumstances eventually leading into the formation of a national Classification Society in …
