The problem investigated in this study is the high attrition rate in academic advisors (AA) that may be caused by compassion fatigue (CF). The purpose of this quantitative study was to address the high attrition rate in AAs by exploring the association between CF in AAs in higher education institutions across the United States and the associated factors education level, cohort size, and years in the profession. AbstractBurnout has plagued human and social services professionals at higher rates than most other professions resulting in the need for interventions and research. The purpose of this quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control groups design was to examine to what degree self-care affects the stress levels of children’s social service professionals in a nonprofit agency in a southern U.S. state. Cognitive activation theory served as the theoretical framework. Nonprobability purposive sampling strategies recruited 77 participants, 21 years of age and older. CPS (child protective services) social workers are critical to the social service community. Due to the responsibilities of this role, CPS social workers encounter multiple stressors and high demands in the workplace. Burnout is prominent in the social service profession, specifically among CPS social workers. This qualitative action research study was conducted to explore CPS social workers’ experiences of burnout and organizational issues related to those burnout experiences. AbstractAlthough there is an abundance of literature on the relationship between burnout and coping styles among providers, this study explored the gap in research about the relationship of these factors to help seeking attitudes. The importance of caregiver empathy in positive client outcomes has been established in the literature. However, helping traumatized people has a potentially deleterious emotional effect on the helping professional, putting them at risk for compassion fatigue. The stress-process model provided the framework for the study. Survey data were collected from 138 immigrant African pastors in the United States. Compassion fatigue dimensions were measured by the Professional Quality of Life Scale, and empathy dimensions were measured by the Empathy Assessment Index. Merger and acquisition (M&A) actions are common; however, research on cultural adaptation over time leading to burnout is scarce. The purpose of this quantitative, nonexperimental study was to evaluate the relationships between independent variables defined as organizational and group adjustment, and the criterion variables operationalized as emotional exhaustion and cynicism, and to determine if the adjustment factors and time interact, affecting burnout in middle managers working in a target organization of U.S.-based M&As.
