A Comparison Of Teacher Job Satisfaction Between Predominantly Black And White Schools, Louis Michael De Ville

The study was designed to investigate the feelings of teachers in selected K-6 elementary schools located in northern California, which had a predominantly black enrollment and a predominantly white enrollment as to those conditions of teaching which constitute job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Null hypotheses related to job satisfaction stated that there would be no difference between job satisfaction scores of teachers in predominantly black schools and teachers in predominantly white schools. Null hypotheses related to job satisfaction stated further that there was no relationship or differential interrelationship between job satisfaction and sex, age, and highest degree completed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to select a sequence of steps as a model change process and then compare that sequence with the steps followed by the Berkeley Unified School District during the change process embodied in the development and first year's implementation of its Experimental Schools Project.
Deliminations: The study was limited to the Experimental Schools Project of the Berkeley Unified School District from December 28, 1970, through June 30, 1972. That project involved approximately one-third of the students and teaching staff of the district.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of job satisfaction of school superintendents in California. Additional purposes were to determine the differences in job satisfaction of elementary, secondary and unified school superintendents; to identify and quantify factors of the work environment which contribute to and detract from job satisfaction; and lastly, to compare variations in school superintendents job satisfaction related to age, experience as a superintendent, size of school district, location of school district, school district assessed valuation, socio-economic status of community and percent of non-white students in the school district.
