Mink Research: Wet Vs. Wet/Pellet Feeding Programs, Troy W. Hobbs Jun 1991

Mink Research: Wet Vs. Wet/Pellet Feeding Programs, Troy W. Hobbs

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Hobbs Fur Farm, of Franklin, Idaho, has been feeding the Fur-Pro pellet (made by Fur Breeders CO-OP, Midvale, Utah) for the past 8 years. Tim Hobbs, the owner, questioned the efficacy of the pellet feed. His concern was the quality of pelt being produced by mink on the wet/pellet feed program. A comparison of mink raised on the wet/pellet feed program vs. mink raised solely on a wet feed program was performed to determine if any significant differences could be noted.

Cross Cultural Understanding Through Language, Shaun Bradley Roundy Jun 1991

Cross Cultural Understanding Through Language, Shaun Bradley Roundy

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Much has been done to discover the place that language holds in the development of our communication and thought patterns. The methods through which members of various societies learn different attitudes and how their respective languages reflect and reinforce such patterns have also been studied in some depth with a number of world cultures. The interpersonal barriers and misunderstandings brought about by the dissimilarities between unconscious but powerful forces that culture has upon our thinking are understandably difficult to discern and thereby surmount. In this paper, I will demonstrate how the chances of achieving this aim may be enhanced through …

Mosfet Audio Amplifier, Jeff Argast Jun 1991

Mosfet Audio Amplifier, Jeff Argast

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

My senior project is an audio amplifier utilizing MOSFETs as the output transistors to drive the speaker. Within this document I cover the details of designing an amplifier, and the methods used to build it.

The most important part of the project is the output stage. In this section I chose MOSFETs over BJTs. Several advantages ensued from this decision, resulting in a simple design.

Further, the transformer must be able to supply the necessary currents for the transistors. Because large musical peaks are possible, resulting in sizable power surges, I had to obtain a large transformer with adequate specifications. …

Japan's Manchukuo Economic Development Or Militaristic Seizure, Nathan Douglas Alder Jun 1991

Japan's Manchukuo Economic Development Or Militaristic Seizure, Nathan Douglas Alder

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Was the founding of the State of Manchukuo an act of independence brought about by the people of Manchuria or a planned take-over by the Japanese military and government? Was Manchukuo a favored trading nation of Japan or just another province in an expanding Japanese empire? Answers to these questions are the motivation for this paper, and aim at the heart of Manchukuo's history.

Dichotemies Of The Human Perception Of The Environment, Janet K. Robson May 1991

Dichotemies Of The Human Perception Of The Environment, Janet K. Robson

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Environmentalism was not introduced in the year 1991, nor was it introduced with the era of the sixties. Perhaps, it is best to say that environmentalism has existed since the dawn of time--an environmentalism consisting of a "hands-off" policy. However, movements based on the environment have experienced an evolution in the past 30 years pertaining to the nature of preservation of wilderness areas and natural resources.

This paper is an exercise in thinking and in writing, both of which I model after Elie Wiesel's Messengers of God: Biblical Portraits and Legends.

Jack Kerouac's Pursuit Of The American West, Dan Fliegel May 1991

Jack Kerouac's Pursuit Of The American West, Dan Fliegel

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Called alternately "the father of hip," "King of the Beats," "the daddy of the swinging psychedelic generation," Jack Kerouac was less a thrill-seeking hipster than a serious author whose life and novels speak of our shared need to explore alternatives and renew ourselves, and of our frustration and regret for our movement away from tradition. Kerouac's life and literature can be viewed as an extended quest, an episodic series of explorations for meaning and for a way of life. He continually addressed the modernist question "How shall we live?," seeking answers in what one biographer calls an ongoing "pattern of …

Quest For Political Legitimacy; Utah 1896-1933, Kirk V. Shepherd May 1991

Quest For Political Legitimacy; Utah 1896-1933, Kirk V. Shepherd

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

FROM 1896 until the early 1930's, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS or Mormon), executed what was in my opinion a quest to regain and establish it's own political legitimacy as an institution. Since early in the Church's comparatively brief history, the very mention of their religion in the majority of modern societies carries negative connotations. I hypothesize that the quest to eliminate or at least "back seat" this stereo type was the primary motivating factor behind many of the decisions made by leaders of the Church during that time period. I will focus on the national …

The Soviet Union And The Gatt: An Impossible Combination?, Gregory L. Waddoups May 1991

The Soviet Union And The Gatt: An Impossible Combination?, Gregory L. Waddoups

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

In considering the relationship between the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs and any given state, one must examine not only the economic reasons for acceptance and participation, but also the political. This is especially true when dealing with the Soviet Union. In researching this topic, I have found that economics and politics are deeply interwoven into the fabric of international dealings with the Soviets on any level and at any given time.

Soviet participation in the GATT goes back to the very beginnings of the Bretton Woods institutions and of the International Trade Organization. While this participation runs contrary …

The Dilettante, Heather A. Riley May 1991

The Dilettante, Heather A. Riley

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

The printing of this book marks the end of a year of deliberating, searching, sifting, procrastinating and finally decision making. These pages include what I consider to be some of the finest work by young artists in Cache Valley. I must admit, I am rather in awe of my contributors. I have always been frustrated by the fact that I seem to have no outlet for my creative urges. Something always seems to get lost between my brain and my pen, So, my "consolation prize" is the opportunity to work with some artists whose talents I respect very much.

Comparison Of Laryngographic Waveforms Of An Adult And Child, Elaine Hicken Apr 1991

Comparison Of Laryngographic Waveforms Of An Adult And Child, Elaine Hicken

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

The ability to accurately identify and differentially diagnose voice disorders is an important concern for the speech-language pathologist. This need has resulted in the development of methods which focus on identifying "objective, reliable, valid procedures for assessing voice disorders" (Costello, 1985). Several methods that allow direct observation of the laryngeal mechanism are invasive and time consuming. A method that is noninvasive and that provides valuable information about the vocal fold movement pattern is needed for clinical use.

Comparison Of The Laryngeal Behavior Of A Young Stutterer Before And After Fluency Treatment, Trista Farmer Apr 1991

Comparison Of The Laryngeal Behavior Of A Young Stutterer Before And After Fluency Treatment, Trista Farmer

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Stuttering is one of the most complex of all speech and language disorders (Caruso, Conture, & Colton, 1988). Understanding of its etiology and treatment is vague, yet growing. Much research is needed in the area of disfluency to increase our knowledge of the disorder and to provide a clearer picture of how to improve therapeutic intervention. Routine evaluation of disfluency typically includes the assessment of stuttering frequency and rate. However, as stated by Ingham (1984), the minimum evaluation data collected (fluency and rate) should be supplemented by the assessment of a number of additional aspects of speech quality (Ingham, 1984, …
