Many adults who are moving into the later stages of life have difficulties transitioning into a new lifestyle including the move into congregate housing. This lack of a well-adjusted mental transition could lead to mental disorders or health problems, if not addressed. To attend to this concern, the current program was designed to educate older adults residing in congregate housing about basic coping strategies for common stressors; Results of the study indicated that there were no significant changes from pre to post treatment measures. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate appropriate quality factors of trade show websites as a marketing communication tool. These factors will be compared by measuring the impact on user satisfaction in the specific view of trade show attendees. This thesis deals with the development of a two-dimensional numerical model to predict the wall-catalyzed homogeneous decomposition of sulfur trioxide gas in tubular component geometry for the production of hydrogen by the sulfur-iodine thermochemical water splitting cycle, a candidate cycle in the U.S. Department of Energy Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative. Approximately 80% of all women experience considerable mood lability in the days and weeks following parturition. Many researchers have attempted and failed to link postpartal mood changes to reproductive hormones and very little research examines perinatal cognitive ability. The goal of this research was to elucidate the pattern of cognitive and affective behaviors associated with the elevated hormones of pregnancy and the diminished hormones following parturition. AP-42 Emission Factors were analyzed for trends over time and dependence on roadway classification and improvements. Local roads presented a significant decrease in Emission Factor over time for pooled data. Local road Emission Factors were significantly higher than Collector and Minor Arterial Emission Factors for pooled data. Differences in AP-42 Emission Factor between the Collectors and Minor arterials were not statistically significant; however the differences between Local and either Collector or Minor arterials were statistically significant. The main focus of this thesis is to give a detailed description of techniques and methodology implemented for feature extraction and three-dimensional reconstruction. The algorithms were developed as part of a project whose main object is the graphical three-dimensional modeling of the gestures of a human hand. The project itself comprises several steps, namely, camera calibration, hand feature extraction, three-dimensional reconstruction, and computer graphics modeling of the hand. The study investigated the effects of low-intensity exercise on muscular fitness when combined with vascular occlusion. Male (n = 8) and female (n = 11) college students performed two sets of a 5-min step exercise using a 12-inch bench 3 times/week for a total of 5 weeks. During the step exercise, blood flow to one leg was partially restricted (vascular occlusion) with a blood pressure cuff placed around the thigh, while the other leg was not occluded. Parameters of muscular fitness were not affected by vascular occlusion. Muscular strength and endurance of both occluded and non-occluded legs were increased after …

Frustration, anger, and aggression have been linked in the literature. Studies have shown that participants are capable of using verbal and nonverbal communication to display and interpret emotions. One interesting communication phenomena is mitigating information, this would include an apology or an explanation. The fundamental attribution error posits that people attribute an individual's behavior to dispositional characteristics more often than situational components. Psychopathy has been considered one of the most dangerous and pervasive of disorders known to date. The construct has been researched extensively in the adult male criminal population but an ongoing debate remains as to whether personality or behavioral criteria should be considered cardinal to this disorder. A preliminary construct for "adolescent psychopathy" has been based on downward extensions of adult criteria such as the Psychopathy Checklist Revised (PCL-R). This process has been controversial, however, and yielded no conclusive findings. This study adopted a "back to basics" approach to define the construct of adolescent psychopathy using clinicians' judgments.

A comparative study is conducted to measure the actual performance of a Zero Energy House design. Ideally, a zero energy house produces as much energy as it consumes in a year's time. Two identically-sized houses (1610 ft2), constructed side-by-side in southwest Las Vegas, Nevada, are equipped with a network of sensors that measure many aspects of energy usage in each home. Two studies were conducted to examine whether students' achievement goal orientations change as tasks change. These studies examined whether goal orientations are stable personality traits; Sixty-six undergraduate students at a large southwestern university enrolled in introductory educational psychology classes participated in these studies. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment modality that utilizes both a photosensitizing drug and light irradiation. To better understand how PDT induces cell death, four human breast cancer (DC4, DB46, MCF7 and MDA-MB-435) and two rat glioma (BT4C and F98) cell lines were treated with 635 nm light from a diode laser following incubation with either PhotofrinRTM or aminoleuvilinic acid (ALA). Cellular responses were evaluated by: clonogenic survival, cell cycle distribution, fluorescent microscopy, protein oxidation and lipid oxidation assays. A solar thermo-chemical reactor has been designed and modeled to study the flow of decomposition reactions. The reaction considered in this case is the thermal reduction of metal oxide, as part of a two-step water splitting cycle for hydrogen generation and methane decomposition, which directly generates hydrogen in a single step reaction. This study examined the current and potential audience of satellite radio by using Roger's diffusion of innovations theory as a theoretical framework (Rogers, 1962, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2003). Survey research was conducted in June of 2006 to discover adopters' and non-adopters' perceptions of satellite radio and competing technologies, their socioeconomic characteristics, demographics, and mass media use; Results of the survey indicated that the average earlier adopters of satellite radio are nearly 32 years of age, earned an average gross annual income of {dollar}40,000 to {dollar}50,000, and had more formal education than non-subscribers. The residual stresses developed at different locations of welded specimens consisting of austenitic Type 304L stainless steel (SS) and/or martensitic Alloy EP-823 has been characterized in terms of S-, W- and T-parameters based on a classical positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) technique. The resultant data indicate that the magnitude of residual stress was higher near the fusion-line (FL) compared to that of the base region of the welded specimen consisting of similar materials on both sides. Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) has been proposed as a possible coolant and/or spallation target for the transmutation of nuclear waste. The corrosion of stainless steel from exposure to LBE must be understood if any transmutation scheme is to move forward. Annealed 316L, cold-rolled 316L, and D9 stainless steels corroded in a LBE environment were studied using Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy will allow identification of oxides within the corrosion layer. A micro-Raman system was constructed for these studies. A steady-state isothermal two dimensional model of the cell is developed.
