The Accuracy Of The Denver Ii Screening Test For Children Under Two Years Of Age, Thomas Alan Kapusnak
The Accuracy Of The Denver Ii Screening Test For Children Under Two Years Of Age, Thomas Alan Kapusnak
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
This archival study examined the accuracy of the Denver II Screening Test for children under two years of age. Accuracy was determined by comparing results from the records of eighty-two children on the Denver II Screening Test, to standards established by the American Psychological Association. These standards were: Specificity, sensitivity, and positive predictive value. Concurrent validity was established through the use of the Bayley Scales of Infant Development. The results indicated that the Denver II Screening Test was accurate for children under two years of age, especially when using the more sensitive approach in detecting children by combining questionable results …
Hydrostratigraphic Units Within The Alluvium And Tertiary Volcanics Of East Central Yucca Flat, Nevada Test Site, Craig Thomas Shirley
Hydrostratigraphic Units Within The Alluvium And Tertiary Volcanics Of East Central Yucca Flat, Nevada Test Site, Craig Thomas Shirley
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Lithologic and geophysical log data from 46 boreholes in East Central Yucca Flat, Nevada Test Site, are used to develop lithostratigraphic and hydrostratigraphic columns. Non-zeolitized volcanic lithostratigraphic units geologically correlate to hydrostratigraphic units. Zeolitized volcanic lithostratigraphic units are combined into a single hydrostratigraphic unit. No systematic trend of porosity or permeability was found in the alluvium which comprises the uppermost hydrostratigraphic unit. Profiles of mean porosity vs lithostratigraphic elevation for 11 lithostratigraphic units are presented. Nuclear test cavities, rubble chimneys and collapse craters collectively comprise a fourth hydrostratigraphic unit.
Standard Penetration Test Correlations For Las Vegas Soils, Christopher Robert Wener
Standard Penetration Test Correlations For Las Vegas Soils, Christopher Robert Wener
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Standard penetration tests (SPT) are used to approximate soil properties including the consistency, cohesion and the internal angle of friction. Due to the frequency of cemented sands, gravel and clay in the Las Vegas Valley, the generally accepted SPT correlations vary from actual local conditions. The following discussion will present SPT correlations, based on field test data, for consistency, cohesion and the internal angle of friction, specifically for the Las Vegas Valley. The Las Vegas soil correlations are compared to general soil correlations; Sampling methods other than the Standard Penetration Test are used to estimate soil characteristics. The SPT uses …
Manipulations Of Task Switches During Acquisition: A Test Of The Elaboration Hypothesis Of Contextual Interference, Carol Helen Aloupis
Manipulations Of Task Switches During Acquisition: A Test Of The Elaboration Hypothesis Of Contextual Interference, Carol Helen Aloupis
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The effects of practice composition on retention performance of motor skills have been investigated by many researchers (e.g., Shea, Kohl, & Indermill, 1990) and the order of task presentation during practice has been determined to be critical in skill retention. Specifically, presenting a subject with several versions of a task typically produces poorer performance during practice but superior performance during retention, relative to a situation in which the same version of the task is presented repeatedly. This concept is known as contextual interference. Typically, it is the switching between task versions that is considered the critical manipulation, while the consistency …
Development Of An Automated Throw Room And Hvac Component Acoustic Test Systems, Michael Anthony Schwob
Development Of An Automated Throw Room And Hvac Component Acoustic Test Systems, Michael Anthony Schwob
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Two facilities for the testing of commercial and residential HVAC air delivery components were developed for the UNLV Ventilation and Acoustic Systems Technology (VAST) Lab. One facility, referred to as the HVAC Acoustic Test Facility (HCATS), will be used to measure the acoustic characteristics of in-duct and duct terminating components. This system will augment the test facility currently used for in-duct passive silencer testing. The other new facility will be used to rate the air performance of HVAC interior inlets and outlets. This system is commonly referred to as a throw room; HCATS includes a supply air fan and closed …
Prevention Of The Decline Of Marital Satisfaction During The Transition To Parenthood: A Pilot Test Of A Marital Skills Training Workshop, Kelly Michelle Carpenter
Prevention Of The Decline Of Marital Satisfaction During The Transition To Parenthood: A Pilot Test Of A Marital Skills Training Workshop, Kelly Michelle Carpenter
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
Previous research has indicated that couples typically experience a decline in marital adjustment during the year after their first baby is born. This study was designed to investigate the effectiveness of the Prevention Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP{dollar}\rm \sp{TM}{dollar}), a research-based marital skills workshop, in preventing this decline in marital adjustment; Participants were 70 married couples expecting their first child. All participants completed the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), Marital Instability Index (MII), and the Communication Patterns Questionnaire (CPQ). The couples were randomly assigned to one of two groups: Workshop or control. Couples in the workshop group were invited to attend a …
Validation Of The Ymca's Guide To Setting Workloads For The Submaximal Cycle Ergometer Test, Nicole Marie-Smith Dacuma
Validation Of The Ymca's Guide To Setting Workloads For The Submaximal Cycle Ergometer Test, Nicole Marie-Smith Dacuma
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The YMCA cycle ergometer test is a nationally used submaximal test that measures heart rate response to an increasing exercise workload. Two exercise heart rates are used to estimate maximal physical working capacity. A workload guide was established to make testing more efficient. The principle underlying the workload guide was that the examiner would assess the heart rate response to the first low intensity workload and from there would set workloads according to the guide. Problems have occurred with the guide, specifically with the highest intensity workload column. The purpose of this study was to validate the YMCA's guide to …
Test And Analysis Methods For Resolving Fan/Motor Vibration Problems In Air-Conditioning Units, Xiaolei Teng
Test And Analysis Methods For Resolving Fan/Motor Vibration Problems In Air-Conditioning Units, Xiaolei Teng
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
This thesis deals with part of ASHRAE Research Project No. 685-RP: Test and Analysis Methods for Resolving Fan/Motor Vibration Problems in Air-Conditioning Units. The objective is to develop the basic analytical models and experimental procedures that can be used to find the vibration modes associated with fan impeller, motor and motor mount in air-conditioning units that are excited by fan impeller unbalance, taking into account the gyroscopic effect of the rotating fan impeller; Two air-conditioning units were investigated in the project. They were designated as test units #1 and #2. For the test unit #1 and test unit #2, the …
