Hydrostratigraphic Units Within The Alluvium And Tertiary Volcanics Of East Central Yucca Flat, Nevada Test Site, Craig Thomas Shirley Jan 1995

Hydrostratigraphic Units Within The Alluvium And Tertiary Volcanics Of East Central Yucca Flat, Nevada Test Site, Craig Thomas Shirley

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Lithologic and geophysical log data from 46 boreholes in East Central Yucca Flat, Nevada Test Site, are used to develop lithostratigraphic and hydrostratigraphic columns. Non-zeolitized volcanic lithostratigraphic units geologically correlate to hydrostratigraphic units. Zeolitized volcanic lithostratigraphic units are combined into a single hydrostratigraphic unit. No systematic trend of porosity or permeability was found in the alluvium which comprises the uppermost hydrostratigraphic unit. Profiles of mean porosity vs lithostratigraphic elevation for 11 lithostratigraphic units are presented. Nuclear test cavities, rubble chimneys and collapse craters collectively comprise a fourth hydrostratigraphic unit.

A Multi-Varied Approach To Meaning Of Some East Baltic Neolithic Symbols, Indre Rita Antanaitis Jan 1995

A Multi-Varied Approach To Meaning Of Some East Baltic Neolithic Symbols, Indre Rita Antanaitis

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Three sets of material and ideological data from East Baltic Neolithic pre-Corded Ware culture sites c. 6500-3500 B.P. are compiled and compared in order to reasonably interpret certain aspects of these prehistoric people's ideology, specifically as it relates to their faunal environment and gender-based patterns in their social system. Approaches taken consist of (1) statistical analyses of a symbolic data base comprised of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic art data, and grave good inventories as they relate to gender, (2) a comparison of frequencies of faunal types represented in economy and zoomorphic symbols, and (3) a cross-cultural comparison of contexts of the …

The Intifada, The Plo, And The Middle East Peace Process, 1987-1993, Roger A Duzenack

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This thesis presents a qualitative theoretical analysis of the variables leading to the 13 September 1993 signing of the Declaration of Principles between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. The global and regional implications of the end of the Cold War and the demise of the Soviet Union, the Second Gulf War, and developments in the occupied territories culminating in the Intifada are examined. The end of the Cold War meant the end of superpower patronage and unlimited military support for radical regimes such as Syria and non-state actors such as the PLO. The Second Gulf War further eroded the …
