Analysis of variance showed that female Harlan Sprague-Dawley rats treated with E in combination with P (EP) had a significantly higher rectal temperature (Tre) than untreated control animals and those treated with E or P alone. In E treated rats, Tre was significantly higher than control animals and those treated with P; All treatment groups had a significantly lower tail skin temperature as compared to the control animals. The rise in Tre in E and EP treated rats did not appear to result from an increase in metabolism since the rates of oxygen consumption did not differ significantly with hormone …
