Cléo from 5 to 7 is perhaps the most famous work of influential French filmmaker Agnès Varda, who is often called the "Grande Dame of the New Wave". Prostate cancer is the leading non-cutaneous malignancy affecting men in the United States. One in every six men will be affected by prostate cancer. Due to the high incidence of prostate cancer, there is a need to develop biomarkers capable of identifying tumors from benign prostatic lesions. miRNAs are small molecules that regulate protein translation and impact cellular integrity when dysregulated. It is widely thought that miRNAs have the potential to serve as biomarkers. Understanding the impact of epigenetic mechanisms on tumorigenesis is essential, as epigenetic alterations are associated with tumor initiation and progression. Because epigenetic changes are reversible, they are potential targets for cancer therapy. Nucleosome Remodeling Factor (NURF) is a chromatin-remodeling complex that regulates gene expression by changing nucleosome positioning along the DNA sequence. Previous studies have shown a role for NURF in embryonic development as well as regulating genes involved in tumor progression. Vitamin D and calcium play major roles in our bone health in addition to roles in tissues and cells. These roles in tissues and cells are associated with some cancers. The purpose of this study was to determine attitudes of cancer patients towards their dietary intakes of vitamin D and calcium. A questionnaire was completed by 128 volunteers (mean age=53.5 years±16.6, 94 women, 34 men) from the Montgomery Cancer Clinic in Montgomery, Alabama. Cancer-reporting participants (n=59) were likely to agree more (p=0.048) to the statement, “I try to eat healthy every day” compared to non-cancer reporting participants (n=69) on a …

Coping with a cancer diagnosis is known to be a stressful experience that can be related to declines in personal well-being and increases in distress. Dispositional mindfulness is known to be related to depressive symptoms and well-being. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between mindfulness and experiences of depressive symptoms and well-being in people recently diagnosed with cancer. Seventy-four participants who were diagnosed with cancer in the last 12 months completed an initial self-report survey, and 43 of those completed another survey 3 months later. Cross-sectional regression analysis showed that higher levels of mindfulness were …
