Social Media Potentials In Supporting Women Entrepreneurship: The Case Of Egypt, Gehan Ahmed Aboutaleb

Theses and Dissertations

The number of women entrepreneurs in Egypt starting and running their business online has been remarkably rising in recent years. Thanks to social media’s ability to harness some of the obstacles women business-owned enterprises encounter, it has become an essential platform for providing women with entrepreneurial opportunities and facilitating their own business. Social media is becoming more of an indispensable instrument for the businesses' survival, especially in light of the implications posed by the recent outbreak of global pandemic COVID-19 in terms of movement restrictions and social distancing measures. However, a dearth in the literature on the impact of social …

Technology And Tactics As Dimensions Of Design: Explicit Representation Of User Actions In The Product Design Space, Tyler Stapleton Aug 2020

Technology And Tactics As Dimensions Of Design: Explicit Representation Of User Actions In The Product Design Space, Tyler Stapleton

Theses and Dissertations

The initial phases of the design process -- including interactions with stakeholders, ideation of concept candidates, and the selection of the best candidates --- have a large impact on the success of a project as a whole. Much of the value generated during these phases comes from the designers' exploration of the design space as they create concepts for the final solution. Unfortunately, an entire dimension of the design space is often ignored during the initial phases of the design process -- the tactics dimension. Engineers tend to emphasize the design of technology in their work, while paying less attention …

Teachers' Perception Of Student Technology Use, Heather Borowiak Aug 2020

Teachers' Perception Of Student Technology Use, Heather Borowiak

Theses and Dissertations

Students in today’s public school system are bombarded with technology at an early age. These students are expected to learn from technology, but they are often not taught to use the technology. It is a common belief that these students are fully immersed in a world of laptops, tablets, and cell phones before entering the school system and are already prepared to use the technology at school. Evidence to prove devices for each student are beneficial is severely lacking, yet many schools across the United States have adopted the one-to-one program, providing either a tablet, laptop, or other device for …

Making Elearning Engaging: The Effect Of Technology Strategies On Student Engagement And Content Knowledge Development In A Secondary Mathematics Digital Classroom, Allison Knapp

Theses and Dissertations

This action research study employed a mixed-methods design to examine the effect of technology strategies on secondary students’ engagement and development of geometry content knowledge in an eLearning setting. Seeking to understand student preferences of the technology tools, this two-week study was conducted during a geometry unit on quadrilaterals and employed the following technology tools: student response systems (SRS), computer-assisted instruction (CAI), gamification, and teacher-made screencasts. Quantitative data was collected on student engagement, the usefulness of the technology, and student self-efficacy through a Likert-scale survey after each day of using technology. Qualitative data were collected through purposeful interviews with students …

Software Copyright: Fairness Analysis Through The Parallel Link Between Users And Authors, Islam Dakroury May 2020

Software Copyright: Fairness Analysis Through The Parallel Link Between Users And Authors, Islam Dakroury

Theses and Dissertations

Until lawmakers harmonize the relationship between copyright owners and users within the context of software copyright, it will remain a controversial topic within the legal field. The ongoing conflict of interests between copyright owners and users along with the increasing complexities of technology make the situation of software copyright more complicated. It is something that the doctrine of fair use/dealing aims to stabilize. In the past few decades, the doctrine of fair use/dealing has evolved towards more complex recording and sharing tools, such as the peer-to-peer networks. However, the court rulings that involve fair use/dealing in software copyright cases contain …

Engaging The Igeneration: A Survey Of Elementary School Teachers’ Perceptions On Effective Instructional Practices And Their Abilities To Use Technology As An Instructional Tool In The Mathematics Classroom, Elizabeth Yvonne Mcinnis

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to describe 3rd through 5th-grade mathematics teachers’ demographic information and investigate their perceptions regarding effective instructional practices and their abilities to use technology as an instructional tool in the mathematics classroom. This information will give administrators a more detailed interpretation of what teaching strategies work best for engaging students in successfully learning mathematics. Additionally, the researcher investigated if there was a statistically significant difference in teachers’ perceptions of select demographic variables and high-performance elementary schools and low-performance elementary schools. To accomplish the purpose of this study, an online survey developed by the researcher was …

The school district was a one-to-one device district, so students, too, had their own laptops to use in the classroom.

Professional development was …

Digital Distractions: Using Action Research To Explore Students’ Behaviors, Motivations, And Perceptions Of Cyberslacking In A Suburban High School, Kristy Self Rykard Apr 2020

Digital Distractions: Using Action Research To Explore Students’ Behaviors, Motivations, And Perceptions Of Cyberslacking In A Suburban High School, Kristy Self Rykard

Theses and Dissertations

Digital technology saturates the personal and educational lives of high school students who are accustomed to continuous connectivity; consequently, students are often distracted by technology in the classroom. Self-Service Technology In A Library System: An Examination Of Potential Library Member Adoption Of Self-Service Checkout At A Southeastern County Library System, Grace Keisha Phillips-Daley

Theses and Dissertations

This applied dissertation examined potential library member adoption of self-service technology (SST) in a southeastern county library system. The research framework of this study was based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). More distinctively, this study explored the significance of motivation factors, to include both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, for choosing to use SST in a library environment as the reasonable effect of familiarity in influencing the possibility of its adoption.

The researcher used a non-probability sampling method to identify participants for the study. Edmonds and Kennedy (2013) suggested that surveys were primarily utilized to observe trends, personal attitudes, or …

Bidirectional Associations Between Passive And Active Technology Use And Sleep: A Longitudinal Examination In Young Adolescents With And Without Adhd, Elizaveta Bourchtein Jan 2020

Bidirectional Associations Between Passive And Active Technology Use And Sleep: A Longitudinal Examination In Young Adolescents With And Without Adhd, Elizaveta Bourchtein

Theses and Dissertations

Many adolescents do not receive recommended amounts of sleep, and prevalence rates of sleep problems are particularly high among adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). One factor that may contribute to these sleep difficulties is technology use, and there is some evidence that the association between technology use and sleep may be bi-directional. Further, type of technology use (i.e., passive versus active) may be differentially associated with sleep. To date, most studies have evaluated these associations cross-sectionally and relied upon global and subjective ratings of technology use and sleep, which masks important day-to-day variability. The present study evaluated bi-directional associations between …
