The Influence Of Lime And Phosphorus Application To Three Soils On Yield And Nutrient Uptake By Sorghum, Madathilettu Mathai Koshy

Masters Theses

It would, therefore, be evident that fertilizer experiments involving the use of lime and phosphates on acid soils will be quite important in reaching conclusions regarding the judicious use of these nutrients as well as fertilizers in general. This work was, then, undertaken with the following objectives in view:

(1) To study the influence of liming and phosphorus fertilization of different acid soils on the growth and uptake of phosphorus and cations by plants; and

(2) To study the influence of limestone and phosphate additions to different soils on the pH and phosphorus availability of the soils as measured by …

Analysis Of The Second Five Year Plan Of India With Implications For The Home Science Program In Higher Secondary Schools (Multipurpose) With Special Reference To West Bengal State., Bani Sen Dec 1960

Analysis Of The Second Five Year Plan Of India With Implications For The Home Science Program In Higher Secondary Schools (Multipurpose) With Special Reference To West Bengal State., Bani Sen

Masters Theses

A plan is essentially the result of purposive thinking and aims in a well-thought-out development. Plans may be of different kinds--as individual, group, regional, or national. The national plan may belong to one of two categories, distributional plan and developmental plan. The distributional plan comes only when there is sufficient wealth to distribute. This can be seen in countries like the U.S.A. and the United Kingdom. Russia, during recent years, has been demonstrating the value of short term developmental planning to the world. After independence, the Government of India decided to launch short developmental plans in the country. But there …

Evaluation Of Factors Affecting Heart Rates Of Dairy Cows, Chekkera.N Ganapathy

Masters Theses

This study was made primarily to determine the importance of several factors which might affect heart rate of Jersey and Holstein dairy cattle in the University of Tennessee dairy herd. It was conducted during the summer and early fall months with cattle representing different age groups, different stages of lactation and gestation, and different levels of nutrition. A secondary objective was to develop some heart rate standards for use in future studies in which heart rates may be important criteria of experimental effects.

Relationship Of Sires To Eating Quality Of Beef, Muthuswamy Pillai Ranganathan Dec 1960

Relationship Of Sires To Eating Quality Of Beef, Muthuswamy Pillai Ranganathan

Masters Theses

The object of this study was to determine differences in eating quality of beef from various sire progenies. Thus the sires which are known to produce progeny having beef with high eating quality could be used intensively for breeding. It was assumed that heredity has a great role in the production of the desired tender beef. By locating sires that produce progeny with tender meat, the task of the beef cattle producer can be made easier and more profitable.

In the face of the intricacies involved in the problem, it is difficult to study phosphate reactions in soils with a high degree of definiteness. But the present study was made for obtaining more specific information on the following points:

The reactions taking place between the products of the initial reaction of monocalcium phosphate with water, i-.e., (1) metastable triple-point solution (MIPS), which is in metastable equilibrium with monocalcium phosphate monohydrate and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, (2) triple-point solution (TPS), which is in stable equilibrium with monocalcium phosphate monohydrate and anhydrous dicalcium phosphate and (3) anhydrous dicalcium phosphate, and three different …

Statistical Analysis Of Farm Land Values In Jefferson County, Tennessee, Charles Daniel Mounger Jr. Dec 1960

Statistical Analysis Of Farm Land Values In Jefferson County, Tennessee, Charles Daniel Mounger Jr.

Masters Theses

This variability in farm land prices calls for an explanation. The intent of this thesis was to provide an explanation of this observed variability. An explanation was defined and used as the degree of association which existed between variables which could be used for predictions. The specific objectives are: (1) to isolate variables that can be measured and used as "explainers" of variability in farm land prices, (2) to use least squares regression techniques in estimating parameters for relevant variables included in a predicting equation, and (3) to present the techniques used in selecting explanatory variables.

An Evaluation Of A Subjective Pasture Scoring System Based On Animal Performance, Robert L. White Dec 1960

An Evaluation Of A Subjective Pasture Scoring System Based On Animal Performance, Robert L. White

Masters Theses

Pastures supply a major portion of the total feed used in producing beef in the Southeast. The importance of productive and nutritious pastures to the beef cattle industry for many years to come is inevitable. Therefore, economical and profitable production of beef will be greatly dependent on the type of pasture used* Because of this dependence the beef producer needs to know which pastures will produce the greatest returns for his labors.

In Tennessee there is a critical need for the evaluation of the established pastures more commonly used for beef production, such as orchardgrass-Ladino clover pastures. If accurate evaluations …

Factors Of The Microclimate Affecting The Activity Of Fox Squirrels In Southwestern Michigan, Frederick K. Courville

Masters Theses

The fox squirrel, Sciurus niger rufiventer, is an important small game animal throughout much of the Midwest. Within the last thirty years several scientific investigations have been focused on this animal, the result being that its life history and ecology are fairly well known.

Concerning the range of the fox squirrel, D. L. Allen (1943:33) states that, in Michigan, the range began to increase with the advent of the pioneers. Baumgartner (1940) and J. M. Allen (1952) noted similar occurrences in their respective states, Ohio and Indiana. In Kansas, the fox squirrel, aided by agricultural land-use, has spread westward throughout …

Community Driver Education: A Study Of The Driver Education Program Of The Kalamazoo Area Safety Council, Milton J. Marovich Nov 1960

Community Driver Education: A Study Of The Driver Education Program Of The Kalamazoo Area Safety Council, Milton J. Marovich

Masters Theses

Chapter I

Introduction

The Study and Its Background

In educating for life adjustment in the highly technological culture existent in this country, it is necessary to recognize the role of safety education. More recognition, however, will not instill the proper attitudes, habits, and physical skills necessary for safe and healthful living. Among all the need for safety education, the operation of a motor vehicle is only one area of concern to the safety-minded. But, to the citizenry it is perhaps the most cogent concern in as much as the consequences of unsafe acts involving use of the motor vehicle are …

Effect Of Alloying Additions On Corrosion Behavior Of Nickel-Molybdenum Alloys In Fused Fluoride Mixtures., Jackson Harvey Devan

Masters Theses

Fused fluoride mixtures containing UF4 have been developed as fuel solutions for high temperature nuclear reactors. The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate the corrosion properties of alloys composed basically of Ni and Mo for containment of these mixtures. These evaluations utilized thermal convection loops which circulated salt mixtures between a hot-zone temperature of 815°c 0 and a cold-zone temperature of 650°C. Initial corrosion studies were made with Ni-base alloys containing 17 to 20 per cent Mo and various percentages of Cr, Al, Ti, V, Fe, Nb, and W. Loops of these alloys were exposed to the salt …

Selected Elements Involved In The Development Of Local Leadership For Extension Work, A. Gopinatha Menon Aug 1960

Selected Elements Involved In The Development Of Local Leadership For Extension Work, A. Gopinatha Menon

Masters Theses

The present day tendency is to separate economic and social responsibilities. It is rather difficult to decide the importance of one over the other. However, both demand efficient and well-developed leadership. Potential leadership is present wherever human beings are gathered together. It is a social phenomenon which rests on the values of the human personality and capacity of individuals to make decisions in questions which affect them vitally. The basic problem in any democratic organization is that of recruiting, developing, and functioning of leaders at all levels from the smallest local group to the central government. The contemporary period in …
