Essays On Panel Unit Root Procedures: Applications To The Convergence Hypothesis, Ppp And Ucip., Kenan Lopcu
Essays On Panel Unit Root Procedures: Applications To The Convergence Hypothesis, Ppp And Ucip., Kenan Lopcu
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The first two essays in this dissertation deal with the empirical examination of growth, specifically with the reexamination of convergence. The first essay introduces the issue and provides the preliminary results. Most of the empirical studies on the determinants of economic growth use cross-country analysis, employing long-term averages of relevant variables on each country. In these studies a negative relationship between average growth rates and initial incomes is interpreted as an indication of convergence in cross-country incomes and therefore, presented as evidence in support of neoclassical growth models. Such an analysis, however, ignores dynamic information that can explain part of …
The Impact Of Specialist And Multiple Dealer Market Structures On Intraday Price Formation And Bid-Ask Spread Components., David Michael Michayluk
The Impact Of Specialist And Multiple Dealer Market Structures On Intraday Price Formation And Bid-Ask Spread Components., David Michael Michayluk
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This dissertation investigates specialist and multiple dealer markets. In the first of four essays, simultaneous trading in two market structures on the Paris Bourse is used to evaluate intraday price formation. Specialists are found to exacerbate the end of day price rise. Stock volatility and bid-ask spreads are found to be larger when a specialist is present, in contrast to existing literature that compares market structures on different exchanges. The second essay estimates the components of the bid-ask spread and trade execution costs on the Paris Bourse. Estimates of the adverse selection cost component do not resolve the conflicting findings …
Three Essays On The Term Structure Of Eurocurrency Rates., Cetin Ciner
Three Essays On The Term Structure Of Eurocurrency Rates., Cetin Ciner
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This dissertation investigates the term structure relationship in financial markets by using Eurocurrency rates of several countries. The first essay tests the restrictions of the expectations hypothesis of term structure and the Fisher hypothesis in an interrelated fashion to characterize the changes in the slope and the level of Eurocurrency yield curves of numerous countries. It is argued that the Fisher relation explains the level of the yield curve and the expectations hypothesis determines the long run relationship between yields at different maturities at that level. Special emphasis is given to the information content of the yield curve for future …
The Effects Of Fiscal Structure, Leviathan, And Interdependent Demands On Local Public Spending Behavior., Rebecca J. Campbell
The Effects Of Fiscal Structure, Leviathan, And Interdependent Demands On Local Public Spending Behavior., Rebecca J. Campbell
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Understanding the fiscal behavior of subnational governments is increasingly important as fiscal responsibilities are devolved. In order to get a clearer picture of subnational government behavior, we employ a median voter model and local government data to perform tests of the fragmentation, decentralization, fiscal illusion, and overlapping jurisdictions hypotheses. A key theoretical result is that estimating horizontal effects of the leviathan and fiscal illusion models without accounting for the interdependent demands for the services of overlapping jurisdictions will result in upwardly biased estimates. We find that controlling for the overlapping jurisdictions relationship is important. This dissertation estimates each model using …

Student Loan Procurement: Exploring Its Linkages To Leadership, Diligence, And Post-Collegiate Behaviors., Thresa Arnita Nelson-Brown
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
With 50% of college attendees leaving college with student loan debt and the default rate of these loans dropping substantially, it may be time to turn our attention away from repayer-defaulter comparisons to look at loaner-non-loaner comparisons. This study addressed the research gaps in the student loans literature by linking leadership, diligence, and post-collegiate behaviors to loan procurement. Respondents in this study (n = 692) were examined and survey data was collected using abstracted versions of the Posner and Brodsky (1992) Leadership Practice Inventory, the Bernard (1991) Diligence Inventory, and an original demographic questionnaire. Leadership competencies, diligence competencies, post-collegiate behaviors, …
